I envy those that can do handwork - my DS knits and crochets and my SIL does amazing needlework. I can sew, but that's about it! My talents lie in other directions :-)

Debby, that is beautiful! I have no doubt that she will love and treasure it. I made one for my Mom to use when she watched tv just before she was diagnosed and she took it to her treatments all the time. After she passed, I brought it home and now have it in my living room as a private reminder of her.

I love both the items pictured. I started crocheting when I was a teenager, started knitting in my mid 20s. Hands and eyes prohibit my doing it now. But I love seeing what projects others have made.

My Mother was a crocheter, to. (She has passed on in 2002 - Bless her soul.) Be careful what you crochet - LOL. I am reminded of what happened to us. My mother crocheted a baby blanket out of bulky Orlon. It had a wonderful feel and my little girl was attached to it like glue. One time we visited my parents and then drove 30 miles north to sleep in my sister's basement. It was late a night when we turned in, and only then did we discover we had left the blanket at the other place. There was no consoling my daughter. She had to have her crocheted blankie. I held her to keep her quiet while my wife hurriedly finished knitting an afghan square. It did not have the feel of the Orlon blanket, but was close enough to put my daughter asleep. Whew!

Be warned: Be careful what you crochet.

Jemdandy, I crocheted my niece a baby blanket before she was born. It was her favourite blankie until she started school. It sure did make me feel good that out of all the blankets she got when she was born, it was the one I gave her she became attached to. :)

40 years ago I made one for my nephew, I started it the day I found out my sister was pregnant. All white and I than weaved white satin ribbon thru the two ends, it was beautiful and very delicate looking. My nephew was christened in it as was his younger brother. Almost 40 years later my sister still has it wrapped in blue tissue. I felt very honored as if you knew my sister..its only the best for her.

Great choice of colors. I love that side to side design. I use it frequently as a stash buster. I made one for my nephew to take with him when he goes for dialysis. He appreciates it, as I am sure your friend will.

Thanks Rusty, even though her stripes are corner to corner, I think Debby has used the same stitch for her blanket too, only with a smaller hook. It's more simple than it looks, just double crochet stitches. There's lots of patterns for it on Ravelry, the one I prefer to use is called Modern Alchemy Afghan.

Debby, is there a name for the pattern of the border you used? I have an afghan I've been trying to figure out a border for and I really love the way your border looks.

The main part of the blanket is a C2C and the outside is a modern granny.

I used a 5mm hook with Red Heart yarn.

Thats so pretty. Im sure she will love it.
