Make a Place for Children's Art
Treat Kids' Creations Like Any Other Art in the Home
Decorating with children's art in a home adds a wonderful touch of whimsy and down-to-earth personality. The art can be your own children's, or a special piece done by a niece, nephew or grandchild. The days of temporarily hanging these masterpieces on the refrigerator has evolved to treating this art like any other image displayed in the home, often being appropriately framed, with the location to display it carefully chosen.
One of the most delightful examples of using children's art in decor is this one by Paige of the blog Simple Thoughts. The colors are so fresh and sweet, and the collection of simple frames work well together. But I think the best aspect is the addition of two cut-out figures hung within the mix.
Another approach to incorporating children's art into a home is to place these works of art in with other collected images, giving equal weight to all of one's favorite pieces of art — children's and others.
A line strung across a wall with clips allows the latest pieces to be proudly displayed. This is a great feature to have in the spot where children work on their arts and crafts.
A small grouping adds a bit of fun to a hallway, and the kids of the home are always proud to see their art prominently displayed, encouraging creativity.
Here is another example of mixing a range of images, children's and others, in a series of frames.
Tip: Consider hanging a framed message board alongside the art. It provides a space to pin up the latest creations, allowing for a simple way to update the collection.

Art needn't always be hung; leaning framed drawings and painted canvases along the top of a bookshelf brings in casual interest, especially when layered behind other favorite collected items.
In a family workspace, a large bulletin board lining an entire wall offers a great place to pin all the artistic endeavors of the family, in addition to any reminders and schedules. The result is a fun collage of colors.
The heart in this gallery was created by this homeowner's niece. Using a wide range of frame styles and shapes, along with a variety of images including both children's and others, creates a collected look that adds a lot of charm to a room.
Hanging a child’s art in her own room can be a great final touch to the room design. It’s easy to do, and affordable ready-made frames are often on sale. Consider changing out the drawings as new favorites are created to help the room evolve with the child as she grows.
