Good quality sofa that won't break the bank?

I have an old Lazyboy sofa and loveseat that have held up remarkably well but are a horrible pattern. They are 14 years old! We are looking to purchase a sofa in light grey or maybe beige. I have heard that Lazyboy is not as good quality as in the past, but I don't know if that's true. A colleague suggested Haverty's, but I don't know if that's any good either. How is the quality of Arhaus sofas? What about Room and Board? I'm trying to find something transitional but I don't want to pay over $2000 for it as we will need to also buy a pair of chairs or a loveseat to go with it.

Any suggestions on places to buy a quality couch that's not super expensive? Thanks!

I have been selling Lee Industries for years and have not had a single complaint! Many of my customers have Lee sofas that are 15 years old and they just need a new slipcover, but the rest of the sofa is solid. I know that some people on here have issues with the cushions, but most of those people have the down cushions - which will be high-maintenance no matter who makes them (and I don't recommend for most people). Lee sofas have 8-way hand tied suspension and they offer a lifetime warranty on the frame and suspension and 7-years on the cushions. If you buy from a reputable retailer they should rectify any issues quickly. No matter what manufacturer you choose - I recommend an innerspring cushion wrapped in down or fiber - they hold up the best!

Less than $2000, One important factor is the fabric, as it can make a $500 frame into a $3000 sofa. It all starts with the type of frame they use, stay away from engineered plywood frames, best is solid hardwood frames with double-dowel glued frames with a no-sag sinuous wire seats, not a flexolator wire seat. Select high density HR or Ultracell foam without any polyester fiber wraps, instead a firm core with soft foam toppers.

Jason, I'd recommend looking at Durham and Orville and Meade (sister companies). Solid wood, nice finishes and reasonably priced. Both have websites to give you an idea, however (as several folks have mentioned on here) they don't do the quality of their stuff justice. Perhaps you can find local dealers and check them out. Online you can check lex furniture in Lexington KY or any of the places in NC for quotes. I'm not affiliated with any of the outfits mentioned. What size panels do you need (length and width) and how many do you need? You will have an easier time getting solid panels rather than a specific print. Hemming drapes isn't that difficult and you should be able to find a seamstress who can do it for not a lot of money. Also keep in mind that colors tend to be seasonal. You may find more of your navy/gold combo in the fall. Go on walmart.com website and check out their Canopy brand of drapes.

Houzz has articles on most subects. Sofa design can impact quality by impacting comfort. What's the point of a well-built sofa if it's not comfortable to sit in. Sofa comfort is subjective. A short person will be more comfortable on shorter seating while a tall person will feel cramped. Throw pillows are intended to support short people in an upright posture. Keep in mind that as we grow older too low-to-the-floor seating puts stress on the hip joints when one attempts to get up. Make sure your furniture fits you.

Does it have to be freestanding? IMO that’s the opposite of comfortable. Can it be a drop-in with a decking surround? That’s really comfy because it’s easier to get in and out, there’s a nice ledge to put your candle, products and tea cup or wine glass on, and it’s easier to clean.

Sealy makes pretty decent sofas at a reasonable price. Maybe check out Ashley and Living Spaces. They have a range of furniture quality and price point. You can ask the sales person to show you the sofas that are quality made and if you find a good sales person they should be able to point them out to you. Good luck!

We've been looking at, and researching, sofas for weeks. Ones I've been impressed with are Norwalk, Lee and Four Seasons, and we've decided on the Alexandria sofa by FS. Probably would have gone with the Norwalk due to their lifetime warranty on frames and cushions, but I want slipcovers and FS has a much better selection. Good luck, it's a bit overwhelming!

I'd check out Taylor King. That's what my next purchase will be after buying Crate and Barrel Lounge sofas in 2011 that have not held up well at all. My research has led me to believe that their quality is top notch.

Stay away from Lee Industries- they have terrible reviews. As well, I just had to return 3 pieces of Lexington upholstered living room pieces as they were unbelievably badly made. I'd steer clear of Lexington too.

I have had my Wesley Hall sofa for eight years--it has held up very well.
