Charles de Mills...should I or should I not?

I am planning a rose garden that is rather formal in design, with four quadrants divided by color. There will be a mix of old and modern roses, but with a definite lean toward old roses.

Charles de Mills is on so many people's favorites list...but then also much derided for suckering extensively. Also, people say he hasn't much scent.

I don't mind pulling up some suckers, but if he will try to take over than I won't plant him here.

Is CDM a must have that I should find a spot for somewhere? If so, should he be on his own? Will an edging contain him if I decided to plant him on his own?

I impulsively bought a band of him this spring...but I will pass it along to someone else if he's too unruly :)

I do have space in other parts of my garden, but those areas have lots of very tall fir trees and a fair amount of shade and I don't want to plant him there if he won't grow well.

Pics and comments on scent will be very much appreciated as well!
