Need some financial advice - I want to buy a house!
Comments (28)Hi. I'm in OC too. Been here since the early '70's. Welcome! The other thing you want to watch out for is Mello-Roos taxes in newer neighborhoods. I paid those on my first condo, but it was based on a mortgage not much over $125k. They can add quite a bit to your property tax bill and they are not tax deductible. Don't rush it. Rent sucks, but so does being house poor. Spend some more time here. North OC is a lot different than South OC. I've lived in both and done a complete 180 on where I prefer to be. In the 20 years I've owned homes, I've been in an equity position and upside down on several occasions. It will work out, but wait until the time is right. Oh, and that thing about waiting until you're married....I think it's nuts. Don't wait to do anything you want (and CAN) for someone else. I know someone who wants to go to Hawaii only when they are married. It's a 5 1/2 hour flight. This person is almost 50. They haven't been. There is no guarantee that two people always mean two incomes. BUT, don't do something you can't afford on your own either....See Morereally need some advice on flooring for home we're buying! pics!
Comments (15)Thanks for all the replies and suggestions, all are appreciated!!!! I guess I'll have to find some flooring I like and hopefully, be able to get some samples, take them to the house and put them down in different areas of the house and see how they look, esp. against the base of the fireplace. I don't mind the parquet and it may look better once it's cleaned or refinished, but do I think it really looks good, not really. While I think it's okay in the entry, I just don't like how it looks in the area surrounding the base of the bricks. Any suggestions on what may look good against the brick?? Or, should I possibly consider some of the resilient tiles that look like slate in a color that would go with the brick? Would something like that complement?? Maybe a light color tile just in the entry, wood elsewhere? Any other suggestions?...See MoreBuying a old 90s house and need advice on how to start
Comments (14)Thank you @arcy_gw. It is 1996 :) I am not familiar with houses always gone with builder built ones ready made. And I am now thinking of going from 2010s house to 1996 .... I am doing something out of my comfort zone and maybe can't express it well. I find the style old - it has sunken living, family and basement etc. But it has been renovated from inside with white cabinets, beautiful white stone in kitchen etc. It is not my style but its pretty, sophisticated neat look. In this house - majorly I would like to improve the backyard. Backyard is still ok. You see there is this green level area in the picture. Hmm.. even that has 1 inch up and down...not sure why. Do you see the brown line which is the fence with a deep 2 feet to 5 feet at some place land gone to waste with just useless vegetation. Can't i fill the dirt and level it and get a decent size backyard i am only concern about the backyard.....the windows etc may or may not come... The family room has 2 storey windows..i will change my life style and enjoy quite mornings there ..maybe....See MoreFirst time home buyer. Advice or what would you do differently?
Comments (44)Hi everyone!! Not sure how many of you are still following this post that commented, but wanted to let you all know that I have officially paid off all of my student loan debt!!! Woo-hoo!!! I took advantage of the 0% interest and became really aggressive with getting down the balance. I’m in limbo with buying a home because of this terrible market for buyers, so I’ve decided to continue to hold off until the market starts to settle and just continue to put money in savings. Also, I’ve been in Atlanta for more than 10years and I’m not sure if this is where I want to purchase a home. I’m going to take some time to sort that out. My dream has always been to experience living some where in Southern California but sigh — cost of living. Anyways, just wanted to let you all know I crossed that major milestone!!!...See Moresushipup1
