Comments (10)The depth of burial must consider such factors as frost depth and prevailing geological conditions. In my region the frost depth is 30" and all lines must be a minimum of 6" below frost depth therefore our minimum depth is 36" and maximum is 48". In regards to pumping, i fail to see why so many people insist on annually pumping a septic tank. If the tank and leachfield are properly installed and functioning correctly the only time it should require pumping is when there is a buildup of non-digestible waste such as plastics which effects flow. In my region the need to pump septic tanks is so seldom that there is only one pumping truck in the county and it is currently for sale because of a lack of work. The septic tank at my mothers house was installed in 1965 and it has never been pumped....See MoreHow do I find out what a book is worth?
Comments (12)> The title is Jesus, the Son of Man, by Kahlil Gibran and the print I have is from 1976. Not only is 1976 not old, but Kahlil Gibran was incredibly popular and there are more of his books even older gathering dust on aging college students shelves than you can imagne. So sell it for a buck. Many factors influence the worth of a book, condition being very important. For example, country of printing, and signed. -I have a first edition, first printing When We Were Six, from 1928 (American printing), that cost a few hundred bucks. The same book, first edition, English printing, signed by author and illustrator was going for 10,000 last time I looked. I remember when I visited my college library for the first time - shelves and shelves were filled with what I thought were ancient books (talking 1800s). While some of these probably were valuable, chances are most weren't. I have my sights now on pre revolutionary war titles; not for the worth, but because I think they'd be interesting. Many are out of my ball park. And I'd really love even just a sheet of an illuminated manuscript. In my dreams. If you are thinking about collecting books, choose books that match your interests. I collect children's illustrated pre 1950. Being specific helps you focus, and helps you learn more about the field so you know when someone is selling a 1920 edition of Alice in Wonderland for $500, you know to turn up your nose....See Moreold chicken weather vane - how do I find out how much its worth
Comments (20)Someone above was wondering why chickens and not ducks on weather vanes. I really don't know, but I can put forth a guess. On US farms a century ago, most had chickens and roosters running loose (free range) but not many ducks. Ducks are water loving birds and will leave the barnyard if they find a pond or stream nearby. Chickens will range around the hen house, but always come back to the hen house to roost at night or for shelter during a storm. Its the Rooster that appears on weather vanes. His tail feathers are more ornate than the hen. Farmers observed the behavior of chickens as a weather forecaster. Chickens will head for shelter during a brief shower and wait for the rain to let up before venturing out again. An old saying was present in the community I once lived in. It was said that if the chickens came out in the rain, it will be a long rain lasting perhaps most of the day or more. By this, it would be natural to associate a weather cock with a wind vane. Wind vane? Its called a weather vane I do believe....See Moreanon125
