Will she have a bouquet of real flowers? I have preserved an entire bouquet for one friend (yellow roses) and a few flowers from another friends bouquet (stargazer lilies).

You may think their invitations are plain, but they may love them. A framed invitation, along with a framed photo of them, would be a lovely gesture.

We have given a backpack/picnic set/cooler many times as a gift with a bottle of wine if we know what they like. If not, I tuck a gift card from a local grocery store where they can grab cheese, fruit and drinks. Their choice for an impromptu picnic while travelling or just to have in the car when they maybe want to stop and not do the restaurant thing. Prices vary from reasonable to very expensive but all contain basically the same items. May sound like a strange gift but it has always been well received.

They are making their own choices and its what they like plus may be in their budget too and so that is good I feel.

When my brother got married my parents gave them money for honeymoon.

We had something made from Indigo Nights for our wedding. It's a beautiful framed picture of the night sky and stars on our wedding night. We had our guests sign the back of it with messages, like a guest book. It's hanging in our hallway as a wonderful keepsake.

I would have been thrilled to receive it as a gift!

Will they be living in a house or an apartment?

I saw this recently and thought it was a nice way to commemorate the occasion. One purchaser said they use it in their entry as a place to drop their keys.

Chi, I love the offerings on Indigo Nights! My nephew is getting married in the Fall, and I am definitely going to give him and his bride a personalized picture. I am so glad you posted about it!

Oh good, Lindsey, I am glad! We have 2 others now too. Hubby and I both gifted our dates of birth to each other and it's fun to see what the sky looked like. I think it's cool they can do historical and future dates. We plan on continuing them for any major milestones like a child's birth.

arlinn, you mentioned that their invitation was rather plain and so was ours.....black ink on heavy ivory stock.

A dear friend of mine had a water colorist paint a simple coastal scene on the invitation, and had it framed. I lived in the lowcountry of South Carolina at the time, and we were married in one of the old waterfront mansions fifteen years ago yesterday!

That little watercolor of a shrimp boat at a dock is a treasure of mine and a truly special gift. I even called them yesterday to thank them, yet again, for such a memorable gift.

I found a very simple but elegant silver and blue enamel photo frame for the painted invitation and it sits on a table in the master bedroom.

I've seen the Indigo Nights before and I really like them. As for framing the invitation - I wonder how long anyone would display it. I can only speak from my personal experience with my friends and my kids but I don't know anyone who displayed it very long. It could to into the personalized scrap book or as Rhizo mentioned - into a piece of art.

Maire, I have to agree with you on the framed wedding invitation. I was given one for my wedding and it just wasn't something I wanted to display in my home.

I agree about the wedding invite, someone did it for us for our 50th and we never put it up either.

We gave a check and a clock to each of our children, the clock being one that was personalized with the new last name and we added the year, aka "est. 2017 below the name. Each one of them cherish it. Here is a large selection of them. personalized clocks.

The gifts with the new last name written on them...we got several of those and, while we did appreciate the thought, I did not change my last name. It's not all that uncommon, really, for women to keep their names. Of course, we kept all those gifts and have them on display, but, 20 years later, it's still a bit odd (for lack of a better word...it just feels strange, really) when I look closely and see the writing.

A friend of mine received a pair of engraved wine glasses and bottles of wine for the happy couple to toast each other when they celebrate different milestone events and anniversaries. I think it was 5 year, 10 year, 20 year, first birth and first home purchase. There's a tag on each bottle telling them when to drink it. They loved the gift.

The old wedding traditional saying goes:

Something old; Something new; Something borrowed; Something blue.

Maybe youcould suppy one of these items.

Old: Pass a family heirloom such as jewlery.

New: Whatever, but should be useful. One of the things we received over 50 yrs ago at our wedding and still use is a salt shaker and pepper grinder set.

Borrowed: A family heirloom such as a string of pearls. etc.

Blue: Maybe her mother's or grandmother's scarf or sash; A blue garter; blue handkerchief.

Yaya - those personalized clocks just gave me an idea for a gift for a friend. I've become a little tired of names on everything, it's something that can easily become overdone. My friends have a second home and they always refer to it as 'the Cottage" - They've invited me several times and I'm always stumped for a hostess gift. I think one of those clocks would be perfect.

i like the idea of framed wedding invitation. i have my parents (both deceased) and i love it., wish someone would have framed mine. it can go anywhere in the home, china cabinet, bedroom, LR, FR wherever. but seeing these responses, i think it really depends on your DD and SIL, what they prefer, think is important, decorating style etc....

Not knowing the couple, I'm short on ideas. I do have our invitation, decoupaged on wood and done by my mother. I haven't displayed it for years, but it's meaningful and I wouldn't get rid of it. I have my bouquet - dried not preserved so it doesn't look wonderful but I know what it is and that's what counts ;0)

I can happily admit to having my brownie sash with all the badges too in a zippered little satin envelope in my lingerie chest. When I'm sorting, updating, I take it out and look at it, fold it carefully and put it back - with a pair of my childhood white Easter gloves that are about 2 1/2 inches long finger tip to wrist.

I don't display a lot of personal things, it's not my decorating style but it doesn't mean they aren't important to me.

Watchme, along with the brownie sash, there has been a cheaply made trophy here all our married lives, something presented to DH at a grade school hoop shoot tournament. And, all those years, I've heard from a friend of his that the trophy should have been his, of the two of them, he was the better player than DH. We're talking about maybe 4th grade, I barely remember 4th grade. When friend turned 50, I wrapped the trophy and gave it to him for his birthday present. He cried, and it's in their game room displayed now....these things matter to some ;0)
