Can you help me? I want the perfect rose bush. :)
Comments (26)As Baby Boomers age, allergies are increasing tremendously, far worse than with any other generation we have records of. I submit it likely has a great deal to do with the smog and other pollution in the environment they (we) grew up in. Yes, what your neighbor sprays or dumps greatly affects you, too. I completely understand the necessity of spraying roses in environments where most won't grow without it. If I had to live where extreme winter protection or frequent, regular use of sprays were required, I honestly doubt I would grow roses. My hat is off to you who do it as it just seems too much work from my point of view. Ingrid made a great point about the found roses from the area. A plant which has survived, even flourished, for decades without our intervention seems a perfect choice to enjoy. Many OGRs and earlier modern roses have survived in old gardens and cemeteries in the Deep South and California's Gold Country and they frequently make excellent landscape plants. It is truly a case of climatic suitability, what is happy where you garden. I'm very glad you brought up that point, Ingrid, thank you. Perhaps they aren't exactly the flower you might be looking for, but using a variety of those which are successful where you are then filling in the premium spot with the desired flower on a plant specifically selected because of its performance in your climate should provide you a beautiful personal environment with less effort, time, energy expense and exposure. Working with Nature instead of trying to bend it to our will requires a whole lot less of everything. Kim...See Moresmall rose bush blooms
Comments (0)My 12 in. tall thomas afflack rose has buds. It was a cutting I bought at the garden show. Will the weight of blooms at this size be too much? Do I need to cut them off. I was so excited. My bushes are loaded with blooms. I sprayed them yesterday for fungus and black spot prevention after all the rain. I love Texas. You can do so much more here than Central Fl....See MorePlease can you help me identify my rose bush?
Comments (8)Sorry but nobody is going to be able to reliably name a specific double pink rose cultivar using only a picture of one cut flower, without any pertinent background information. But do try the Garden Web rose identification forum - being sure to note the directions in the FAQ section of that forum about what to post for best possible results. Also which cultivar it is won't really have that much to do with how to correct the yellowing. If the lowest leaves are yellowing entirely and starting to drop off most of the time with plants in general that will be a watering issue - either too much or not enough. Again more background about the situation - and more pictures - are needed....See MoreHow to keep a smoke bush small?
Comments (7)watch a couple of these : https://duckduckgo.com/?q=smoke+bush+renovation+pruning&t=ffcm&iar=videos&iax=videos&ia=videos with no insult to a healthy root mass ... you might be surprised how aggressively it can come back .. these things are beasts ... you really should get a dwarf version if it really doesnt fit the spot ... they are also what i can run it over with the truck plants ... you arent going to kill it by pruning.. and in fact.. not much dies from pruning alone ... and you could probably run it over.. and it will still come back ... you dont want to do it at height ... because multiple sprouts at each cut at height.. will sorta make a new bush at height.. and they sometimes bend over form all that weight up there. .. ken...See More- 7 years ago
