Thank you! I can't grow albas, gallicas or rugosas here in SoCal, ayeee -- Cardinal Richelieu will haunt my dreams. HPs don't thrive here either -- although I do have an Ardoisee d'Lyon which is eating the house and which actually had a flush this spring, its third -- but if they did, Hornish Plot (what a name!) would be here soon. Wonderful photos.

Forgive me this indulgence but I forgot one of the most beautiful roses that was displayed -- Pat Austin. This may be the best grown DA rose I've ever seen. It makes my newbie PAs look like California poppies.

Beautiful, Ann! Pat Austin's coppery tones are wonderful. Monsieur Tiller is such a handsome rose. I'm zone challenged and cannot grow him here :( Mme Hardy's crisp white blooms are perfect.

Very enjoyable to see so many nifty old varieties in one place. I appreciate your sharing the photos with those of us who couldn't get to the actual event.

Charles Lawson, Claire Jacquier, Hornish Plot, Lady Stuart and Le Grand Capitain are probably my favorites, but I enjoyed them all.

OMG, that Claire Jacquier is to die for. HMF says it is not available in the US, but someone has it, correct? Thanks so much for all the pics. Just wonderful!

'Claire Jacquier' was spectacular -- easily the most impressive blooms in that section. I will confess to adding to the noisette display by bringing a spray of 'Bouquet Tout Fait', which is also no longer available in the U.S. Hopefully, it still resides in the Vintage Gardens collection, because it is wonderful. I also brought some blooms of "Lundy's Lane Yellow" an old Pernetiana, for the old HT section, again no longer in commerce, but a really great rose.

Those tables of roses are always thrilling, but this year seemed especially good, as was the bouquet from Miriam's garden.

catspa - here's the fabulous bouquet -- can you tell us who made it?

It was a wonderful day. I brought my niece and her 6 year old daughter and 3 year old son. Both kids got free roses - they carefully selected them, with much thought. Phoenix, the three year old, picked one whose tag was illegible (to everyone), so he is excited to have a "mystery rose", and I will help him figure out who it is. What really made me happy was that their mother emailed me the next day to inquire about how big the pots should be to put them in, etc. etc. I think I am making progress with that part of the family!

catspat, I was recently gifted with a lovely plant of 'Bouquet tout fait' from Roses Unlimited. A fantastic plant so far with charming flowers and a good wafting fragrance.

Your 'Bouquet Tout Fait' looks much like mine was at that stage, Virginia, and that is great -- two vendors, Roses Unlimited and Angel Gardens are now on HMF for the variety. The scent, to me, is very wonderful, and it is near-continuous bloom. Now, if only a vendor would pick up "Lundy's Lane Yellow". For a Pernetiana type especially, or any hybrid tea, for that matter, it is very healthy and vigorous on its own roots and blooms like crazy.

Thanks for that last photo, too, Ann! A bouquet worth remembering. I unfortunately don't know who made the bouquet from Miriam's garden, Ann, but he/she was a real artist. I was thrilled to see some in there that looked a lot like the blooms of "my" version of "Old Red Runaround" and wondered if that rose had a "real" name in Miriam's garden.

catspa - that bouquet is a masterpiece! I've only been coming to Celebration for a few years but it's definitely the best one. Years ago I lived not too far from Miriam and but never went to this event because I wasn't gardening, much less interested in roses. Now that I can appreciate Miriam and her work, I wish I had come to this event at least once!

Jeri - It was nice to meet you! I was going to post these photos on the Heritage Facebook page but I don't think there's an option to do an album. I posted them instead as a photo album on the Old & David Austin Roses page that I know you're a friend of as well. If you want any of these photos for use by the group, I can send them to you through Dropbox.

John, note that, when I photographed 'Mons. Tillier', he was sitting properly in the Tea section, where he belonged.

I think that maybe someone had picked him up and carried him around. I've done that myself, but I do usually put them back where they came from.

I had a lovely conversation over there with a gentleman who loved all the same Teas that I do. (He had a passion for 'General Gallieni'. So do I, with thanks to Gean.) Then I had to scuttle back to our table, as we were a little shorthanded this year.

But I was SO happy to meet several of our GW group! That MADE MY DAY!

Well, THAT, and the fact that I took memberships from NEW people, who were just beginning this voyage of discovery. That's so terribly important.

It was a wonderful day. And after, we headed north, and spent a couple of days in Ft. Bragg. If you get a chance to visit the Mendocino Botanical Garden, be sure to do so.

Thank you for adding your photos! I'm learning this year that going to rose society shows, attending events like the Celebration, and seeing garden roses in places like the historic cemetery in Sacramento has really enriched my knowledge and appreciation of all kinds of roses.

I agree with you that experiencing roses first hand, especially ones that have been loving grown and are exceptional specimens is really valuable.

Wonderful photos!

A respectful correction -- 'Duchesse d'Angouleme' as shown is a Hybrid China -- the type some rose books considered to be Centifolia hybrids. There's at least one other rose with that name as an aka, but I think the most common one is an Agatha rose None I know is a moss. I grow the one in your picture, and its aka is 'Wax Rose'. There's a pic or two in my Spring 2017 thread. I grow it as a short climber against the railing on my raised front porch. It has such a sweet, powdery scent....I look forward to it every year.
