Comments (3)I, too, have experienced the word mismatch phenomenon. And like you, I tend to both replace and remember them through the syllabic rhythm of the word. Alliteration is also a big troublemaker. I don't know exactly what I do to break the block. I can't remember :) I do know that in order to remember some stuff, I have to put it into context - play back a situation in which I used the word, addressed the person by name, etc. I remember scenes vividly, more so than chronologies, names, dates, etc. It's almost like I can see them played out like movies in my brain. Sometimes, if I forget the name of something, or the chronology of events, I'll replay the scene in my head. To remember songs, I latch on to one bar or word that I can remember, and try to hear it in my head. But most often, I usually just ask someone :) I have two friends with phenomenal memories, and they're big helps. In fact, in one of my last posts on the grammar thread, I couldn't remember the word "supposably" (one of my peeves). I just called up my friend, reminded her of a casual conversation we'd had about two years ago when I'd mentioned that I hated it when people mispronounced that word, and she remembered exactly which word it was. People with good memories freak me out. They say that coffee and cigarettes can help with memory. I've never found that to be the case....See MoreBack to square one with this computer
Comments (41)Interesting enough, computer was fine until I tried to open Photoshop C3. Like last week, it gets stuck on MMXCore Routines when opening. Tried uninstalling it last week, but apparently it didn't happen. Thought maybe it would open since computer was running okay now. Computer crashed. Here are the crash reports for today: On Mon 3/19/2012 4:53:24 PM GMT your computer crashed crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini031912-01.dmp This was probably caused by the following module: win32k.sys (win32k+0x9D10D) Bugcheck code: 0x7A (0xFFFFFFFFC0600058, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000056, 0xFFFFFFFFB5D20884, 0xFFFFFFFFC000B000) Error: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR file path: C:\Windows\system32\win32k.sys product: Microsoft Windows Operating System company: Microsoft Corporation description: Multi-User Win32 Driver Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the requested page of kernel data from the paging file could not be read into memory. Comments (37)You were refueling. Gardenweb is one of my favorite places to refuel before I plunge into whatever I'm trying to accomplish. Unfortunately, the more I read about here, the longer the list grows :-). Update on the room: I got the plaster bonding agent. I ended up getting Silpro Weld-o-bond because it was available locally, and it is labeled for bonding old plaster to gypsum materials. If you are in the greater Boston area this may be easier to find than Link or Plasterweld. I tried spraying it but I wimped out on the mess. Plus it was beading and dripping off the plaster, not soaking in. I ended up brushing it into the cracks with a small (1 1/4") Purdy brush. I had to make multiple passes as the first pass would apply, second would break surface tension, and subsequent ones would provide more liquid to absorb. I also thinned it nearly 50/50 with water per label instructions. It is fantastic! No more crispy crumblies! I can run my finger down a crack, and it does not rain sand down on me. I wish I'd known about this before; it is great stuff. At $12/gallon, it's a cheap lifetime supply. Today I am moving some cabinets around in my kitchen so that the refrigerator can open fully (it has been flush to a side wall since we moved in 2 years ago). Wish I'd thought of this before. Of course, the cabinets are 50 years old and nailed in 50 different ways, so it's a bear to get them out. I'll be using screws to put them back :-). Hopefully I will finish that today and then it's back to the trunk room....See MoreWhat would YOU invent in the Home Decor arena?
Comments (46)I second jamies' lampshade idea! Impossible to find the right shade for a lamp, the offerings even in the lighting stores are so limited. Attractive soap dishes and dispensers. Dishes where the bar of soap doesn't sit in a puddle of water, but drains. And dispensers for kitchen dish soap that are useful (pick up, tip, squeeze) but attractive enough to sit out on the counter all the time. Best I can do right now is a plain clear one that I had to soak the label off of!...See Morecat_ky
