can anyone advise re forget me nots?
Comments (6)Yep, they are biennials that act as perennials because they self-sow in the same spot every year. I winter-sowed a bunch last winter because they were so pretty. They are just the thing to set off tulips: Also look into brunnera, which is also called false forget-me-not. These have big, gorgeous heart-shaped leaves that can have all kinds of green and silver markings on them. I have Jack Frost and he really brightens up my shade garden. You can see him just off center in this pic beneath the caladiums: Come to think of it, you can see the true FMN in the extreme lower right of this pic. It has small, finger-shaped leaves. Comments (4)I started cynoglossum indoors in mid-spring last year and they started blooming around mid-august. Sounds from others' posts that they are reliable bloomers but variable in terms of when. I grew them only because (strangely) I couldn't find any seeds of myosotis in retail stores, and it was too late for a catalog order. They were beautiful, though, an intense sky-blue, and I think now that I prefer them to the other forget-me-not. I hope they self-seed as people are suggesting they do. Comments (13)Hi Ken, here is my experience with Roundup: Roundup is safe to use when no other plants are around. It seems to drift more than a foot, can not pinpoint weeds, probably should use it as foam then. Yes, Creeping Jenny took off on its own, roots about every foot or so, climbs down walls. I am fighting that too. So I tried Roundup several years ago, came too close to an established Sum and Substance which was gone in a year. I used Roundup against another crawler (Ajuga) too close to azaleas too, musty have crept into the shallow roots of the azaleas possibly after a rain, I lost two azaleas then. But that opened space for more hostas, so was not too bad. A few weeks ago I had to battle a larger "infestation" of Bishops Weed, remembered past bad experiences and used cardboard to shield azaleas and hostas against overspray (fine spray) while spraying Roundup. I only sprayed sparingly on the tops of the leaves. Bishops Weed is turning brown, hostas are OK, azaleas will show later. I notice when using Roundup against grass in cracks of pavement, that grass seeds will not germinate there, grass will stay out of there for 1 or 2 more seasons. Therefore, I would not plant into Lasagna layers down to past grass for a season when Roundup was used. Roundup is bad stuff when not used carefully. Bernd...See Morenot forget-me not, but what?
Comments (6)If not Myosotis certainly in the Boraginaceae family. Why are you sure it isn't a forget-me-not? There are many species and lots have have fuzzy leaves. Do you have a picture of the open flower heads?...See Morecrushedpurple
