forget-me-not
Comments (4)I only have experience with a water forget-me-not (not sure what the diffence is) I planted them bare root between the rocks of my falls so the roots stayed wet, but the friend that gave me the handful had them spread about 2' x 3' into her pond. Mine bloom from June thru July, but continue to make nice greenery in my little falls until the first frost. They are not hardy in Zone 4. Comments (3)gfult, One of the forget me nots is actually a biennial, so it grows in year one and in year two it blooms (usually in May or early Jun), sets seed and dies.. Presumably it will self sow after it sets seed, but many gardeners are tidy and clip off the brown stems with the dead seed heads which prevents this from happening. As cheesy says above, if you have a place for forget me nots, they will make a beautiful blue focal point in spring, maybe for years to come. If you put them in the wrong place, they will shade out smaller plants in the spring and look very messy coming up between plants where they don't belong. Lime...See MorePink Forget me nots
Comments (6)There are annuals, biennials and perennial forget-me-nots. I have m. scorpioides 'semperflorens', a perennial. It's spreads by creeping rhizomes and also reseeds well. As long as I trim them back after blooming, they will bloom on and off all summer. Jenny, I do like you do...spreading the seed after they're done blooming. Works really well...sometimes too well! LOL! You can always pull what you don't want. Thing is, pull them before they flower. Otherwise, when you see those beautiful flowers you won't want to pull them. :) I've read somewhere, can't remember where, that the white and pink fmns aren't stable...they can come up blue when reseeded. Comments (6)I'm afraid you have left it too late to get flowers next spring with your tulips. They need sowing June - August to flower April to June. Not sure if you realise this but they aren't perennial. They are biennial ie sow one year, flower next year, die after flowering. Mine self sow and are already big robust plants which will flower in the spring. Maybe you will have to buy plants this year. Another thing that occurs to me is that your botanical tulips will be fairly short and unless you choose a particularly small cultivar of forget-me-not even they might overtop or hide the tulips....See Moresymplestytches
