Should I be happy, I think probably yes.
Comments (2)What you say is possible as they were packed close together. Root balls and plant size for the identical species plants were similar and they had thin layer of foam separating the roots from each other. Looks more to me like they pulled plants from seedling benches that were of similar size and packed them together. This is completely open and straight up, no subterfuge. I hate it when you get a cat with 6 pbulbs and on repotting it, which is what I do with all new plants, you find 2 plants growing in the same pot, neither blooming size. In that situation I will complain to the vendor. I gave these people positive feedback as the plants are healthy with strong root balls and the numbers are great. It's just I have to wait for blooms longer than I hoped for. Another plant I received earlier from another vendor is a strong mother plant with 2 new ones about 1/2 size which were connected by long, thin stalks which looked like they were not meant to be there permanently. I think that plant will do exactly what you mentioned. Nick...See MoreThink Thanksgiving 1937 was probably the last time
Comments (6)I remember Hubbard squash from when I was very small. Those things were MUCH bigger than I! And when some was desired for dinner, my dad was sent to the woodshed with an axe to whack off a chunk. We have had such success with butternut squash the last couple of years, I think I may have to try Hubbards, and maybe even make"squash" pies....See MoreI saw the post about RRD...I think all my wild dog roses have it!
Comments (3)The wild rose is probably Rosa multiflora and most often the blooms are white, although there's a naturally happening light pink sport that shows up every so often. (Rosa caninda, the dog rose, has larger pink blooms and can be a more elegant rose, holding itself up in a vase shape.) Can you talk your husband into bushhogging this weekend? IF your temperatures are not yet in the 70s, burn them (with proper permits). Multiflora isn't supposed to be red at this time of the year nor are you supposed to be able to see that something is wrong from a distance. Please read my e-book. Come back here with questions. And could you tell us which county you live in? Ann...See MoreI think this may be RRD
Comments (6)I think it is RRD. Do use a straight shovel to cut off any roots from it that might be reaching out to other roses...if they have grafted to an adjacent rose's roots, that rose is in danger. Not all county extension agents are up to speed on RRD, nor are their support people at the respective states. Southern California problems aren't southeastern US problems; for that SCal rose growers should be very thankful. The just pour on fertilizer suggestions are not applicable to contageous, incurable diseases. But this is a free country and anyone can give advice. Re the picture, it's not just the leaves that are wrong, it's the spacing of the leaves on the stems. The short internodal distances are what are also wrong and what make them looked so bunched up...thus the rosette part of the RRD name. Also, I'm seeing a great lack of symmetry on someof the leaves as well as textural problems. Try to get this dug out before the weather gets hot again and try to get all the roots. That is really horrific vigorous growth....See MoreUser
