Update on bird feeding and cats
Comments (2)Bless you for feeding hungry birds! My cats are indoors, but I keep dry food out for some neighbors' cats that sometimes stay in the garage. My bird feeder resembles a plant stand; it has a tray sitting atop a column. The cats thought it was a smorgasboard! I moved it to a 'clear' spot, farther from any trees or shrubs or other 'cover' from which a cat might spring, & set it on top of a small patio table that's about the height of an end table, to give the birds a little more vertical room to flee in case of cat attack. so far, it's worked well. edited to add: Linda, you might put the feeder under some trees with high canopies; hawks hunt by sight, & trees would provide some cover. If you pick trees with high canopies, far away from shrubs that could conceal other predators, it might enable the birds to eat without being eaten. Comments (3)Precision carpentry I agree abt the windows. I am not sure what to do. We need a garage, so I have to put one In there somewhere or add an addition for a garage. And live_wire_oak. I understand your point, but the house is on my parents' farm. We bought it a few years back from a family member. We don't owe much on it. We had plans to build in the spring, but can't find any other family members who are ready to buy our house. So if I am staying I want to give my house a face lift. We are in a beautiful location with fields all around us. So I feel very comfortable putting the Money in the house. I just need help getting a 3 car garage and adding a master bedroom or extending the current master bedroom. We have lots of room to extend the house. Any ideas?????...See MoreDoes this Garage Addition Work Well with the Existing House?
Comments (8)The yellow renderings are the alternate driveway idea without an addition (changing entrance to the driveway to the left side vs the back which it is today). I wanted you to see what the house looks like and will look like as that left front area is currently a covered porch but will be converted to a room. It does not show the addition as that would be to the left of the front left room on the 3d. i'm just trying to provide a good amount of perspective without a new 3d. I do not think we would add retractable screen as we are putting in an addition in back and it will have lots of windows.. do you see the 3d and the long driveway? that is limited yard space and we get more yard space if we do the addition as it moves the entrance to the garage to the front of the house. That is why we are trying to get the garage entry more towards the front. We explored entering under that top left room (and having second garage in existing under room next to it) but there is a fireplace behind the wall for that front room and would require a lot of structural changes. my arch thinks the covered terrace is competitive with the main house so I want to rework as needed to see if we can make it more cohesive/integrated. I think if we can, we need to recess it a little and work on the roof to make sure it is not too pronounced. DO you understand what i'm saying?...See MoreUpdating/adding addition to this MULTI level home
Comments (9)am unsure how to advise you on adding space without seeing a floor plan or at least photos of other sides of the house. As far as updating the exterior the first thing I would suggest is replacing the columns at the entry. They are undersized and really aren't appropriate. The brick looks good enough that I wouldn't advise painting it. It provides a nice contrast to the siding. I would suggest replacing the garage door with one that has character. Would suggest installing one that has windows or lites in the upper portion. Garage doors with windows do more to alleviate a flat facade and give the house more depth. Good luck!...See More- 7 years ago
