So far it seems like Sub/Zero has good reviews. pllog- you raise a good point in that I do live in a smaller city and service in general will be harder. To give an idea any showroom that i visited was at least an hour away. rima-wa- looks like you had a good experience with Mile service. I originally was looking into Gag oven but scratched that idea entirely since there are NO displays in any showroom in my state at all! Imagine servicing something like that. On a final note Wolf is about to put a Combi Steam/Convection oven on a few of our showrooms here. Since I was initially really interested in this feature maybe I should start looking in thais direction. Still there are features in the Miele oven that I really liked. Plus I think I was going to get a few pieces off the showroom floor and from the Close out section that would have priced out some of these Miele appliances a bit better. Another reason I wanted to make sure Miele service was strong

@msklh - The Viking was 10 and had been repaired several times including the freon, which I was told in retrospect is equivalent to open heart surgery on a fridge. Should have replaced it then. I went through an exhaustive search for the replacement & there's a long thread on this forum with lots of details, plus back and forth from some really knowledgeable folk. But I didn't have depth for SZ integrated. Long story short: Finalists were Miele & SZ. But we get frequent power outages here which Miele is built for and SZ is not. That was the deciding factor. Most decide on features like layout etc. Many like their Thermadors and that would have fit. But I didn't care for the interior quality and was unsure about service in my area. It also was nearly as much as Miele and I knew their quality & service. I personally loathe the taste of fridge water so water in the fridge -- apart from ice -- is the last thing I'd ever want. I do miss that slim full width drawer in my Viking as it gave me 3 big drawers vs 2 in the Miele. The little deli drawer is OK. It can be removed but I cram it full. The two big crisper drawers are very deep and hold a ton. But the big difference is the openness of the shelves. What I like best is the door racks which are super sturdy and hold all our drinks. The fridge is quiet (there are some faint compressor noises but my Vike was so noisy we could hear it upstairs), temperature is excellent. Freezer is excellent with 2 shelves I like a lot. Aesthetically, I wasn't mad for the look of the huge SZ grill which I would have had protruding from the cabinets with a standard install. Mieles vent is behind the freezer door on the bottom. That makes the compartment higher than the SZ's. The Miele lighting is outstanding. You can see everything even when the fridge is crowded. It was also about $800 less than the same style SZ here. Nice benefit since I had to pay for install. But either one is a good choice. When I compared them feature to feature it was a tough decision.

Hi L G, We ended up with all True for the bar appliances. In the living room bar, we ended up doing the True ice Maker and a True beverage center. We opted to put the ice maker here, as opposed to basement bar, since we figured we would use it much more often in the main living area as opposed to basement which is more used for movie watching and parties. So far that has turned out to be a good choice, since with two small children, we aren't hosting as many parties (yet). For the basement bar, we went with a True refrigerator, a True dual zone wine refrigerator, a True freezer, and a Miele dishwasher (Lumen, I think - I can get the exact model if you want). To be honest, so far this bar hasn't gotten a lot of use but we are still settling into the house, and I think it will be great once we are a little bit more up and running. It's been nice having the extra fridges for the beverage and wine storage. Overall we are happy with the selections. The quality and aesthetics are great. As someone recently posted on one of the threads, the True ice maker isn't "whisper quiet". You can hear it filling up water, clearing out drain, and dumping ice into the chamber periodically throughout the day. I honestly don't really notice it, and without basis of comparison, I imagine it's similar if not better than other ice makers due to the nature of the operation, but if appliance noise is a concern, I would definitely try to check out one and see if you are comfortable with the noise level before committing to one. But we've been very happy having it, and having it near the living space means it gets used a lot, and it's super nice making a cocktail and having a fresh supply of clear ice right by everything. Avoid Miele Mastercool. Delivered New Mastercool with faulty door. the door gets stuck when closing and needs a hard push or slam to close. Miele refursed to acknolwedge this as defect and refused to fix it. The product is clearly faulty as the fridge in showroom does not have this problem at all. You are going to get poor quality and no warranty honour after purchase. Avoid Miele at all costs if you don't want defects from brand new.
