Miele vs Wolf/Sub-Zero - Rate their SERVICE

We are in the process of a kitchen remodel and have chosen to go with Miele for many of my appliances. Here on GW I have heard good reviews in regards to Miele service. Today I was speaking with a sales rep who stated that Miele were great products but SERVICE is far from desirable. He went on to say that he felt servicing issues were non-existant with Wolf/ Sub-Zero.

I would love to hear feedback from folks here on GW.

If you'd have a service call out to one of these companies how have you fared?

I think that salesman is full of kaka.

Miele and sub zero are both top drawer companies, both in terms of product and service.

I think Miele service is patchy. They seem to be great in some places, and in others people have to fight to get service. That might because of availability of good repair services or issues with the original store or something. Relatives had a real problem with their company installers. Others have had fantastic service from them.

Wolf sent a service man to me for what turned out to be an installation error. He went over the whole unit while he was here. Wolf got their money's worth and I got reassurance. The local SubZero service that has been taking care of all the SZ's in my family is also good, but that's on post-warranty work, with direct contact, rather than through W/SZ. I am in a major urban area, however, so that's not surprising. In more far flung places, where there aren't many to choose from, I don't know if the service would be equally good.

Great Advice, PeterH2. I love the great big window on the Elux oven door, how cool the door stays, the huge (wavetouch display which "to me" is intuitive) and easily read without my glasses. Throw in the fully gliding out racks, (smooth as silk) even after 5 years, and an oven that understands "C" or "F" degrees, I have no idea what temp scale Miele's use, but it ain't one of the above-----Need proof, just do a search for Miele oven temperatures. Miele does make a great dishwasher however, We have the Optima, again for 5 years now and it has "somehow" managed to keep up with the reliability of my other Elux appliances---Speed Oven, Induction cooktop and wine fridge. I do not recommend buying Elux DW's or their fridges. As has been said , time and time again here, No appliance maker makes the best appliance for everything, Elux and Wolf have it right on the ovens, Miele the DW's. For a fridge I would at least look at the Jennairs, it is usually the #1 rated fridge for reliability per folks that responded to surveys by Consumer Reports, yep, top of the heap, can you guess who was on the bottom, reliability wise?, alto now I think they are 3 up from the bottom, at least last time I checked. If you are a serious cook, which your post seems to indicate, then U really have 3 choice, Capital, Blue Star and possibly American Range--all high powered open burner gas ranges--alto my induction unit will blow the socks off any of those when it come to boiling water, precise and instant temp control, ease of cleaning etc, but I do recognize that there are still "Gassers" in this World!! Good luck on your hunt, hope it works out as well for you as it has for us, 5 years later, and still no service calls cept for a loose handle on the speed oven. Gary

I looked at both last week. The biggest difference to me was the size of the freezer. I'd rather have the room in the fridge, so the SubZero would be my pick.

I have both. I am in the middle of completing my kitchen install so can't fully comment on service. But.... I did have a broken right rear wheel on my new Miele fridge. I am in NJ and so is Miele's HQ in the US. Got an appt a few days later and they switched the part out. They also set my fridge in place and leveled it out. They would have installed the panel and finished the install if the panel was assembled. ll for no charge. They also saw I had their DW as well and gave me install tips, operating instructions and pointers so I have nothing but great things to say so far. I have had others on the forums who have had issues in certain areas due to limited techs or service People knowledgable. I have the Wolf DO and have a question to ask their service people since I am not sure if something is normal or not during pre-heat. So can only comment on that side if there was an issue that requires service

I understand it may be easier to fix, but does the problem still occur? " In Kalapointer's oven saga, it was at some point replaced with an M which they report here has chipped. "Well, I have waited since February 8th to have my M Pro double oven repaired. The enamel on the bottom of the oven was chipping and crazing." " Should an oven be able to handle self-cleaning mode, yes. But I can tell you from my experience many people have problems with their units after they've run self-cleaning mode (and this is across the board for modern brands), likely due to all the new microchips and electronics we use in modern ovens these days." Whether it is electronics or the blue enamel, if it doesn't work, don't promote it as a benefit and take it off until you get something that does work. "Coincidentally enough, I've never had a customer that experienced this chipping issue on Wolf ovens and I do sell quite a few. So I've not seen how it might arise yet the the real world. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened to these customers." No one knows how many have this problem except Wolf. From this forum, we know it has been ongoing for 10 years and some posters have had as many as 3 go bad not to mention one of the lawsuits mentioned a multiplicity of failures for one family. They were also talked into spending more money with Wolf to upgrade with the idea it would not occur and it still chipped. That has happened on this forum too. I feel if Wolf was sincere and it was truly a rare occurrence, they would upgrade the appliance at no additional cost for the inconvenience it causes and in at least one case someone cut their hand on the shards. Our first DW was destroyed by incompetence - fortunately we did have an extended warranty(which I don't usually purchase) and after investigation, we went with a Miele DW again. The warranty lemon refunded our entire purchase price.
We recently had a service call and they only offer factory service in our area now. The rep was wonderful - told him the problem and he ordered parts in advance and the DW is back working perfectly. He also suggested using the Miele soap bricks - and I tried the samples and was hooked.
Cascade cleaned but the Miele sparkles.

I have had Miele appliances (2 appliances) for the past 10 years. I have had Wolf (also 2 appliances) for the past 8.5 years. I have had to call Miele service one time and they came the next morning and fixed things - it was a dishwasher problem and a plastic screw cover off my kitchen scissors had come off and was clogging the drain. It was not a problem with Miele per se. I have not needed to call Wolf service. I am in the Seattle area if that matters. Provided quality has not deteriorated since I purchased my appliances, you likely will not even need to call for service. These are made to last and I do not believe you can go wrong either way!

While I have had two service calls on my Subzero (I have one that came with the bad batch of copper, and a fan died or something)...the service has been Really good. On one repair they came out the next morning and the other repair was prompt and efficient as well. I have not had a repair to my Miele DW, so I can't comment.

I will reiterate that both miele and sub zero are the very best of the best.

I can't comment about Miele since I don't have any Miele appliances.

However I can rave about Sub Zero- both in warranty and out. My 501 R and F are now 25 years old. There were several instances over the years where Sub Zero readily offered to sent the part for free and I paid labor. My son managed to break the handle off the frig and when I called Sub Zero's tech line they offered to mail me 2 replacements handles - one to replace the broken handle and another one for the freezer so that they would match. When my DH snapped the corner off the plastic light shield they sent a free one. When my Sub Zero authorized repair tech called them to find out what part he needed for the auto defrost they sent that free too.

So far it seems like Sub/Zero has good reviews.
pllog- you raise a good point in that I do live in a smaller city and service in general will be harder. To give an idea any showroom that i visited was at least an hour away.

rima-wa- looks like you had a good experience with Mile service.

I originally was looking into Gag oven but scratched that idea entirely since there are NO displays in any showroom in my state at all! Imagine servicing something like that.

On a final note Wolf is about to put a Combi Steam/Convection oven on a few of our showrooms here. Since I was initially really interested in this feature maybe I should start looking in thais direction. Still there are features in the Miele oven that I really liked. Plus I think I was going to get a few pieces off the showroom floor and from the Close out section that would have priced out some of these Miele appliances a bit better. Another reason I wanted to make sure Miele service was strong
