Comments (11)Many times I've wanted to share some recipes, often ones that I haven't made, but am planning to, but they didn't fit the theme. I have one for today's theme though. This is a refrigerated Cherry Cheesecake recipe that I made in my Gr. 9 Home Ec class. The recipe calls for Dream Whip, but Cool Whip or real whipped cream can be used. Refrigerated Cherry Cheesecake 2 1/4 cups crushed graham crackers 1/4 cup melted butter 5 tbsp sugar 8 oz pkg cream cheese, softened 1 pkg Dream Whip, or 2 cups thawed Cool Whip or whipped cream 1 can cherry pie filling Combine and press into a 9"x9" baking dish. The crust can be either baked to set the crust, and cooled, or since this is not a baked dessert, it can be put in the freezer for 15 minutes Whip the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Prepare the Dream Whip as directed and fold into the cream cheese. Spread over the crumb crust, and top with the cherry pie filling. Refrigerate several hours until nice and firm....See MoreBittersweet day

Comments (32)This may sound really selfish, but I am raising my daughter to not fall into the Hallmark holiday trap. I don't want her to be sad on Mother's day when I'm gone or for her to wear any kind of flower. We spend a lot of time together, we are spontaneous and have a great time. We don't need a holiday to commemorate our relationship. Having said that, my Mom has been gone exactly 10 years now. Her birthday almost always fell on Mother's Day, and she passed away just days before Mother's Day, so the day makes me sad, and I just don't want my DD to feel this way. If she wants to make a deal out it with her DD then that's her thing. We did go out for dinner and live theatre (with DH of course) and had a great time, but I say it's to celebrate ourselves, for no reason, not for Mother's Day, it's something we do as a family. I miss my Mom every day and we talk about her quite a bit. I know that she missed her Mom every Mother's Day and that always made me sad. I just want to turn that around somehow and not have my daughter dread Mother's Day and other holidays, like I did for so many years. We honour my Mom, her g'ma by talking about her and the things she said and did. I am also adamant about family time being any time, not just holidays and not just because the caldendar says we have to. And no, I do not want a sappy Mother's Day card that I am expected to live up to for the rest of the year. Save the $6 you would spend on a card and tell me in your words what I mean to you, the good the bad and the ugly. Well, hopefully it's all good, coz I really don't want to know the bad unless I am unintentionally traumatizing someone. :-) See, I told you I was selfish. :-)...See Moreldstarr
