Tsuga Canadensis is a species of tree. You must have a cultivar of T.canadensis?

ha ha, we're fighting a loosing battle with the yellow flowers here.

Very nice and healthy looking. To me it doesn't look like the straight species. Can you see any sign that it is a grafted tree? It should show at the lower trunk.

If it is the straight species, it will become a very large tree, so where ever you plant it, give a lot of room. And I don't think you'll be able to turn it into a 'weeper'.

I have someone spray the pretty yellow flowers every year but still have a few stragglers.

I guess it doesn't matter but since one can "train" trees a little bit, I might just try it. I will never live long enough to see full height since I am getting close to 70 but I still garden a lot. That might be fun to try. It sure was cheap enough at around $7.00 with the discount and it was a gallon rather than a quart.

I wish I could get a couple of those. Do you mind sharing where you got them?

Ha ha, do what you want with them. I do some wacky training and pruning with a few of my trees. The strait species of Tsuga canadensis, that I believe you have, naturally weeps at the branch tips so you may not have to do anything to them. If you want one that is very weepy then you will want to look for one labeled Tuga canadensis 'Pendula' or 'Sargentii'. These can be quite common at nurseries.

Garen, thank you I will write that down and see if I can find one although I may just stick with those 2 and go after one of those tall upright ones with the long "arms" and one of those ones that are more prostrate. Oh, can't forget a brilliant blue one, either. Whoopie, another bed to mow around... (rolling eyes) haha I spend more $$ on growing things than I do clothes! They are addictive.

bill_minn, I found these at a farm store named Bomgaars which is a chain of farm stores. The only ones in MN are in southern MN and if you are in z3 that will be quite a haul. The tag said the growers are Michigan Evergreen Nursery; maybe you can find a more local store that carries their stock. They do have a catalog online.

Garen is right, the species Tsuga c. does have soft branches that could be manipulated to an extent. I just didn't want you to get your hopes up that it would be exactly like some of the cultivars. They are very nice trees, good luck!

Straight eastern hemlock is weepy with its new growth, which straightens out in subsequent yrs. If you really want a hemlock weeper, just search for the weeping version.

in regard to the weepers.. when you get them ...

most peeps grow them UP to some height.. and then release them.. to weep down ...

else.. they can just lay on the ground.. until some tree time in the future.. when they decide to go up ...

it helps in viewing from a distance .. and helps as establishing them as weirder that carp .. lol ..

shape and form.. are a function of you yourself ... and whatever you can dream up ... and that would be called a GOAL ... but that goal has to be in tree time ... decades ...

I didn't even know these kinds of conifers existed until I saw a few at a seed corn office down here. They are fascinating, for sure.
