Cactus identification help

I've been trying to identify this cactus forever but have had no luck. Everytime I ask at a plant store they say "skeleton cactus" but googling that just leads to cactus skeletons. Anyone know?

Looks like Tephrocactus articulates v, papyracanthus. Hopefully someone will confirm or correct soon!

Please note that they can rot easily if too much water. They need a very fast draining soil and sun. Difficult to say in the picture but your plant may need to be repotted with new soil and higher in the pot

I'm no expert, but I'm surprised no one has asked if there are holes in that pot so it can drain. They'll also ask about your soil, cacti and succulents don't do well in regular potting soil. That's about the extent of my expertise, but others here can help you :)

Agree with Kara on the ID. Usually Altman's and Costa Farms often glue on those horrible fake flowers. Kara is right. You can remove with tweezers and some patience. I also have a "brain cactus" (Mammillaria Elongata cristata) that came with plastic flowers, and it actually grew so much that it "forced" the plastic flowers off. So -- if you don't have luck TAKING them off, grow your plant and let the plant do the work. ;-) You have a very pretty Fairy Castles.

Thanks Pluto that's very nice of you to say. This was an easy one;). I'm really into cactus so one of my fav things to do is Google all different types. I have a notebook that I keep where I write different cactus I find interesting and unique. So I don't forget them;). Succulents like Aloes and Haworthias can't id if my life depended on it;). Looks like a Trichocereus if some sort. The yellowing could definitely be from the sun, but it won’t harm your cactus. How much do you water?

Alain is right on with id and gave you very good advice. The mix needs to be faster draining. Just some plain ol perlite will do the trick. Mix 60% with some C&S soil. Your Opuntia needs way more sun. See how the new growth isn't as fat and round more long and narrow. This is a sign of not enough light. Most cactus do not make the best indoor plants. I'm not saying it can't be done, but most cactus are sun worshippers:).

I would start out by giving it full morning sun and then afternoon shade for a bit. Then see how the plant responds and up the sun exposure from there. Will not be happy if you give it all day sun all of a sudden.

Sorry I'm not trying to come off pushy. I just really like cactus and want them to all be happy:). Goodluck:).
