Oh Melissa! I know what you mean!!! For me, privacy and garden walls! When I see a walled garden......

Our property is on a hill and very breezy, which I'm convinced accounts for the general health of my roses -knock on wood- but arghhhh what I wouldn't do for a still, quiet, hot walled garden with stone walls to grow things on. Sometimes I really hate the wind!

More gardening space. There's a lot of teas, and other ogrs I would like to try if I had the space

I visited famous Italian gardens a couple of weeks ago and the Cotswolds in England in August and now dream of impossible things like old ruins and a better climate which is ridiculous. But I do wish I had planted more large trees from the beginning. There are tall trees enough in my garden but in the wrong places for where I want shade and shadows in summer. My husband has the same regrets and asks himself and me almost every day why, oh why didn't we plant more yew hedges when we started gardening.

Having my garden right outside my front door! It is sad to not be able to look at it every day,work in it when I want to,etc. Last week I was sick with a bad cold, and didn't get out there at all,which is such a shame since the roses are all blooming now. I finally went yesterday...stayed very late, and today am too tired to drive out there. Since it's a 20 minute drive to get out there,doing "a little every day" is kind of off the table,so I tend to exhaust myself working a long day ,and then have to skip a day in order to recover.

I'm with Anna-Alyssa. It can get windy here and if I could change one thing that would be it. No wind! In one part of the garden, we have sort of a wind tunnel effect going on. My DH and I have been looking into the cost of putting in a row of more mature cypress trees as a windbreak. Thankfully cypress trees love my climate and are not too thirsty here once they are established.

More rain, a less fiercely intense radiant sun, which I know will only get worse, and better soil. Being able to work in the garden for more than 5 to 10 minutes at a time would be nice too. bart, I so regret your situation and what you go through maintaining a garden that is so far away with your health challenges.

Somewhere flat, grass instead of mown weeds, and absolutely no brand canker! I swoon over those long double herbaceous borders in English gardens, with the wide grass paths, and I remember the smell of just cut grass (somehow different in England), the melodic twittering of the birds, and the freshness of Summer there. But I doubt that I'd enjoy living there full time again. Those endless days where it hardly seems to get light, and the heavy, grey February days where the clouds are just above one's head.

I'd like a Cotswold cottage complete with thatched roof to serve as a backdrop for my antique roses. Quaint garden gate and rolling vistas a plus. Collie is essential. Carol

I would skip the wind, too. I also would love year round rain so we didn't have to have an irrigation system.

Having a garden again! I'm moved to a city and had to settle for a flat while I'm saving up for a mortgage. I struggle with indoor plants and can not wait to have a front and back garden.

I'm really envious of flat green garden with climbing roses and bright flowers.

I have to bring everything through the house (terraced house). It creates a terrible mess every time. I end up treading mud all over.

Portlandmysteryrose, I live in a thatched cottage and even though I'm sure it's not so nice as the one you are imagining, it's got lot's of problems. Insurance is through the roof(!), some people can't even get insured. And once we had a chimney fire where we didn't know if the house would catch fire, the fire brigade sent three engines! In those moments you nkow that if the house sets on fire the whole this is like a tinderbox and will be gone in a matter of minutes (3-5 minutes). Luckily we were fine. Also, the cost of replacing a thatch is upwards of 25,000!

Revision: a Medieval half timbered cottage in Shrewsbury with an electric fireplace, a slate roof, retro fitted fire walls and a sprinkler system. Oh, and located next door to a fire station! :-) Carol

Terraces. I need terraces. And more roses to retain cane over the winter. And roses to grow faster. My Souvenir de la Malmaison took 30 years to develop more than one cane. As Melissa says the old European roses are the best, here too.

DH found an article in the newspaper that said gardening is like burying dollar bills in the ground. True as far as stated but dollar bills don't grow. Sometimes anyway. And dollar bills don't make your heart flutter.

Oh yes, and lovely deep top soil instead of pottery clay.
