Comments (15)Cheril-Ohhh, I know that blog oh too well...I discovered it from someone on this site (or propbably multiple people) and I added it to my "favorites!" Like ajsmama said, though...I am trying to do *affordable*, plus, I cannot even say I like the idea of mounting the blind on the soffitt/drywall above the door...because if the blinds are down, you can't open the door, and I would like to have that capability. I really was considering this just cuz I wanted to be "different" and I thought it would be somewhat reasonably priced. I wanted to have WW blinds *AND* drapes/panels just cause I like the varying textures. I may have to forego that idea after tossing it around with you folks...I just don't think it is practical. side note: my front doors are also french doors. On these, I am definitetly doing some sort or blind, because I don't want drapes at my front door, that would look weird. I need to do something SOON...I already answered the door in my bathing suit because I was expecting a friend...and it was a solicitor! :0 The front doors are double french doors. The back patio is one french door in the middle, with a pane on either side. red-I am probably going to go with just drapes. That was my original plan, guess I am back to it!! :)...See Moreadding privacy lining to woven wood blind...is it easy?
Comments (10)thanks stbonner. I will check it out! Do you know how they attach? I guess I will google, thanks again. I hear ya, larke...this is what I am worried about. I can't imagine putting material back there and then having the shade roll up neatly the way it does with no liner. But if these liners stbonner mentioned are truly made for that purpose...maybe they will work? heck, I don't care if it is somewhat temporary...if I have to replace them once a year. No, cannot fit a shade in there...that's why I mentioned it is "inset mounted" (not sure if that is correct term.) No room between the shade and window at all really!...See Morewhere to buy woven wood blinds for french doors?
Comments (7)Hi DM! Here's our floorplan to give you an idea of where some of our FDs are. As you can see the front/main entry opens up to the Gentlemans Parlor. I have lace panels on the front door and it's sidelites like this... They are actually 84 inch length tab top "macrame" panels that I wove through the lace with the bottom rod giving the flounce and ruffle at the bottom or they would have been too long. It worked and I loved it. What you can't see is the frosted contact paper through it. Here's a terrible shot of the door, but you can see the sidelites with the contact paper. It looks much better in person. I took it at night with a flash making it looks shiney, which it's not. This was a temporary treatment when we first moved in. Just a long piece of semi sheer fabric wrapped around the rods and tied in a knot. If I wanted more light I clipped the back part of the fabric behind the knot. Cost less than three dollars with dollar fabric found at Wal Mart while they still had fabric. Here's a close up of the panels I have in the Gentlemans Parlor and the shades that are at the moment the photo was taken inside their housing, which will be painted to match the rod when I have time. As you can see they don't match the main entry window in any way. Oh the walls will be painted to match the curtains when the weather keeps us from work outside. The color there now was to be a basecoat for a faux finish my hubby changed his mind about. The sunroom FDs looked similar to the original temp front door treatment... But will possibly look like this next photo/drawing if I have enough fabric left after making six 90inch panels for the five window across the back of the sunroom. They are button up Roman style shades. As you can see by the above pictures, well other than our home isn't finished yet, that I don't think all the french doors need to be treated in the same way. Though we'll probably find a way to add sliding french/glassed doors between the GP and sunroom because the colors do not blend. Do you have photos or floor plan drawings of how these two sets of french doors set in your home?...See MoreHELP: Picking blind curtain combo
Comments (9)I love your gorgeous draperies! I'm partial to warm browns! I vote for number two - the darkest blind color. It will offer a greater contrast, matches the draperies best, and will highlight your ebony-colored furniture well. The lower price is an added bonus. Please come back and post pictures when you can!
