There are a number of blind stores on line - blinds.com, justblinds.com, and many more. Most sell their own label of products and the big name brands.

The selling websites have instructions for measuring, but if you have questions, call them before placing the order on line. The ones I have used have knowledgeable people answering the phones.

I'd try Lowes or HD since you're wanting exact measurements. Talking thru your measurements with someone face to face may be the safest route!

Most companies will deduct up to 1/4" on each side so you need to find out how much to add to your measurements so you get the right width. For height you measure the distance between where you want the top of the WT and the bottom.

Depending on what I'm ordering, I sometimes find better prices at HD and Lowes than online. Talk to a WT person at either store and find out when they plan to have their next sale. When I purchased my WW, HD had a sale starting the next day.......a one day special the salesperson just happen to find when she looked up the brand I wanted.

Dirtymartini -- You said you prefer to buy them in person, rather than on line. And that's what I did when I ordered the woven woods for my french doors. I got all of my window treatments from a local shop who has been in the window covering business for two generations. The current owner is now in his 60s, and his father started the company. He has so much knowledge; he's the one who came to my home, measured the windows, showed me the products, and then returned to install everything. Everything I ordered was custom-made for my home, including the woven woods I put on 4 of the windows in my home.

So, if you really want to purchase them in person, check out the local companies in your phone book, and go to their stores to check out their products, their experience, and their approach.

For me, that works best because 1) I don't have to worry about measurements -- the firm takes care of that; 2) I don't have to worry about installing and getting it right (see #1), and best of all, there are LOTS of fabrics, designs, and products to look at, feel, crush, hang up to my wall color, hang next to the window, etc. All of the sensory aspects associated with selecting a window covering that, for me, can only be accomplished in person.

DM,if you just want privacy I used "frosted" contact paper over our sliders at our last home and also here in the side lites. It's got a bit of a texture to it. I've been thinking about changing them out to the clear contact paper which looks more like regular frosted glass that the frosted contact paper does. Just haven't had the time. The great thing about this idea is that you still get difused light but anyone outside can't see in. If you don't like it, it peels right off.
We have four sets of french doors in our home and two full glass doors, one with full glass sidelites so I know what you mean about needing different ideas for them. Each room calls for something different.

justgotabeme-Hello again! I have another friend who recommended the frosted glass contact paper. I did not believe her that it did not look "cheap" but she showed me her door, and it looks GREAT. That is actually a more practical suggestion, because our rooms are very dark in this house...it is an older home with small windows...so I need as much light as possible coming in. My *only* issue is....the dining room FDs are visible in the same room. While I am ok having different *treatments* on the two FDs (want some dramatic yet NOT formal or fussy WTs on the dining room FDs) I am not sure it will look good to have one ste frosted and one set non frosted, in the same room. What do you think?

Beth-I totally think that is the right thing to do *IF* I planned on keeping these doors. Now, of course, as much as I want to replace theese doors and talk like I am going to do it soon...the reality *MIGHT* be that these doors stay here for years and years...we have MANY things to fix up and beautify in this home. But at this time, I do not want to spend *too* much $$$ on them. I do have a WT person in mind when I do my dining room (2 windows and one set of FDs) because I want something dramatic and I want ideas and I know that I will be leaving those WTs for many many years. So I totally get what you are saying and agree with you!

annz-I think I am taking a trip to both places (L and HD) today. I am going to check out the contact paper I keep hearing about, but also the WW blinds. I will update ya'll on what happens.

As you can see the front/main entry opens up to the Gentlemans Parlor. I have lace panels on the front door and it's sidelites like this...

They are actually 84 inch length tab top "macrame" panels that I wove through the lace with the bottom rod giving the flounce and ruffle at the bottom or they would have been too long. It worked and I loved it. What you can't see is the frosted contact paper through it.
Here's a terrible shot of the door, but you can see the sidelites with the contact paper. It looks much better in person. I took it at night with a flash making it looks shiney, which it's not.

This was a temporary treatment when we first moved in. Just a long piece of semi sheer fabric wrapped around the rods and tied in a knot. If I wanted more light I clipped the back part of the fabric behind the knot. Cost less than three dollars with dollar fabric found at Wal Mart while they still had fabric.
Here's a close up of the panels I have in the Gentlemans Parlor and the shades that are at the moment the photo was taken inside their housing, which will be painted to match the rod when I have time. As you can see they don't match the main entry window in any way.

Oh the walls will be painted to match the curtains when the weather keeps us from work outside. The color there now was to be a basecoat for a faux finish my hubby changed his mind about.
The sunroom FDs looked similar to the original temp front door treatment...

But will possibly look like this next photo/drawing if I have enough fabric left after making six 90inch panels for the five window across the back of the sunroom.

They are button up Roman style shades.

As you can see by the above pictures, well other than our home isn't finished yet, that I don't think all the french doors need to be treated in the same way. Though we'll probably find a way to add sliding french/glassed doors between the GP and sunroom because the colors do not blend.
