designergrey....."I like the Quantum Finnish but it is overkill for small loads." I agree -- "overkill". Like you, I have soft water via Kinetico. New Whirlpool dishwasher came with Finish Quantum samples. These things are 3-4x overkill for even full dirty load with soft water...and you can't divide them.....and they're expensive. Been experimenting in the two months since new machine installed. For full dirty loads, I've settled on scant teaspoon prewash plus heaping teaspoon main wash Cascade Complete powder without phosphate. Use "normal" cycle which heats water to 120 only. Excellent results every time. For small loads or lightly soiled loads, I cut the amount. The machine it replaced used just about twice as much water....and I was using just about twice as much detergent for the same result. Soft water is wonderful stuff. However, if you use "normal" amount of detergent, as you would with hard water, you're going to get etching over time. Most folks don't understand this and the product purveyors aren't much help. For example, right on the Cascade box it says: "For best results, fill both pre-wash and the main wash cups completely." Without considering water quality in use, that's completely nuts! For soft water users, that's about 4-6x overkill.

I have had the issue with the damaged (thankfully returned to normal) cabinetry. My appliance dealer took back the KA after a month +/- of use based on this and let me pick anything I wanted to replace it. I picked a upper model Bosch, with the cutlery rack, and haven't regretted it one bit. This machine is quieter than the KA, I can fit more since the tines are closer together (I took my plates to the store with me before purchase to be sure they fit), and most important, it doesn't vent in to my cabinetry. I have linked my original thread on this issue, and some people say they have never had any moisture there, and these people also have their DW pulled out from the cabinetry, where I wanted a flush fit, which is what I thought you would get with a fully-integrated machine. I'm very happy with the Bosch. I was quite upset at first because I loved the KA with the exception of the vent issue, but we have all the rest of our KA appliances and we're happy with them. My best advice would be to buy from a reputable dealer who will stand by their product, and if needed, replace if you're not satisfied. Here is a prime example of why I switched. I placed this piece of paper in between the DW vent and my cabinet directly beside it on the left. This is what I got after a cycle. I think the fact that the repair technician from my appliance store who came out and said that our machine was functioning the way its supposed to and yes, indeed that IS a vent, is telling. Just bought a DW So new just installed yesterday. I have not ran my first load, maybe tomorrow. But I just did tons of research. I looked at KA, Bosh, Miele. I ruled out KA due to info on website kitchenaidfires.com Apparently per website fires not limited to KA but lots of stuff made by Whirlpool, no true link proven yet. after more research, just tossed out the KA, and all whirlpool stuff based on fire risk alone. Bosh was my 2nd choice, Miele 1st. Bosh won due to price/cost Miele just not in my budget. Just got the Bosh SHX7ER55UC. Hope I'm happy, but in the end just a matter of getting something that you like, is in budget and if it breaks hope its affordable to fix. Oh, and for the sales stuff I got 10% instant rebate offered by Bosh. I think that sale goes to end of April, and Sears they offered me 25% discount when I told sales person I was going to leave, but would consider buying soon. Presented me a card with well..if you come back to me I will get you an extra 25% off that DW. (I was looking at a Kenmore made by Bosh( I was told that it would be discontinued and no longer available once they are out of stock.).
