Yes, I've been to Kunming before and the botanical gardens there are outstanding. The weather there reminds me a bit of Mexico City without the pollution, where it never gets real hot and it never gets real cool, just in the middle all year long. The Hangzhou botanic gardens are also very nice, but the climate is more seasonal. We have seagulls here in Kansas also(about 440 miles from the nearest ocean at it's closest point, which is the Gulf of Mexico). They love to hang out around the dump though. A large number show at large local lakes also and a few hang around fast food joints looking for scraps. Then there's the large annual migration of Franklin's Gull to and from it's breeding grounds in the central prairies of Canada and it's winter home's of Argentina and Chile(some stay in the Caribbean) which can last for a few weeks in Kansas. Sometimes they continually fly over, especially at night it seems, for hours and hours at a time.

These look so good in front of red roses. I have this rose called "Intrigue." It has a purple tint to the blooms that is difficult to describe. This Yucca stands out with it. The colors just go together so well. I have also seen them with red knockout roses and they look good too. It also looks good with my Nepeta "Walker's Low," Penstemon "Dark Towers," and Mexican Hat Plant and various Echinaceas and ornamental grasses. I have found that they do well even when other plants are up against them. I have to prune my Nepeta away from it on occasion. I think this Yucca is one of the best garden plants ever. The color is so much better than most other plants. For example...The amsonia hubrichtii was the perennial plant of the year; however, it is so ugly compared to my Yucca 'Color Guard.' It did turn a dirty yellow in the fall, but it's floppy and the color didn't last long at all. This Yucca stays nice all year. It has pink tints in it right now because of the cooler temps.

I agree, this can be lots of fun and very rewarding. I have taught classes of this method of "preserving" our gardens but instead of printing the images on paper we printed them on fabric (this was a quilting class). The fabric for doing this is readily available at quilt shops and stores such as JoAnn's and it's cut in 8"x10" size, perfect for the home scanners most of us use. I had previously taught this group of quilters a color theory class so they put their new knowledge to the test on their floral scans with great success. Some of them made wallhangings, while others just made an individual scan and framed it. All of them were beautiful! Diana
