After seeing your latest pics, ans re-reading your OP - I would say the following: 1. You PURCHASED the piece of stone for the Island - it was your property 2. THEY suggested that you wait on the island 2 1/2 years ago, and on THEIR insistance - took responsibility for the piece (still YOUR property) 3. What they are trying to give you as the island made from "your piece" (if the small sample in the pics is what the stone SHOULD look like...) does NOT match with the sample. Based on these three criteria - I would say you have a case, and that your Fabricator now has the responsibility to "deliver" - if he can't to your satisfaction, you'll need to work out fair compensation for loss and de-fault of contract. Hopefully it won't go there - I'm hoping that your guy will make things right and give you what you feel is acceptable... TO YOU !!!! I would hope that your Fabricator can find a stone with waaay more of a match to the sample, and then everyone wins. My guess is - they lost track of your "piece" AND either broke it or fabbed it (the original) for something else, or they just lost track of it and it's still there - burried in their scrap pile.... I work with shops all over the world in my business, and I cant tell you how many other fabricators are in this general group....... EVERYBODY makes mistakes now and then !!! LOL - But..... you gotta hols your guy's feet to the fire and have him fab up an island that YOU will be happy with. Greenmtn, I'm in the process of redecorating, and I'd like a traditional look that lends itself to change with the right accessories. I, too, had thought of doing the island countertop with a different edge from the cabinets. I like the ogee/bullnose for my island, but I'm not sure which edge would look best on the other countertops. Thank you for the responses!

I am not sure it's possible to find a busier mosaic than the one you've chosen. It has different sizes, colors, shapes, and materials, both stone and glass, in a single sheet. If you were pairing it with the Quartz alone it might be ok. I think it is a bit of a mess pairing it up with your busy island stone. Do you really love that tile? You don't have to go monochromatic with the tile, but I probably would, and I'd recommend a glazed ceramic tile or a glazed thin brick from Fireclay tile, over a stone or mosaic tile. This is Fireclay thin brick in Silk. If you have your heart set on glass tile, I'd go for a mosaic with an interesting shape in a single color. This is Pacific Tile's Wood ash cream beige arabesque. But if your eye clamors for more color, more of a piece-y patchy look, you should try to choose a mosaic made of a single material in pieces of similar size and shape, that incorporates two or three complimentary shades of a single color, no more than that. Below is Botanical Glass in Cream Beige and Brown Beige sandwiched between your other materials. I hope you can see that while busier than the monochromatic choices, this mosaic is a more harmonious choice than the one you have above, because the busiest piece in the room is no longer the tile, it's the island stone. If you have your heart set on a mosaic, try to find something that pleases your eye, but is a little simpler than the one you have now. Whatever you choose, your main focus should remain the island stone. Good luck!

May I just reiterate how grateful I am for the input? cpartist, I have attached a picture of the tile on the fireplace (were you asking me about the tile or the wall color?). I had purchases the 12x12 samples from Samplize and loved the look of Revere Pewter in there on then walls, but did not like it in the kitchen. I thought Edgecomb gray looked nice in the kitchen, and I put that sample next to the tile in various locations, and thought it looked nice. So I had planned on using White Dove for the cabinets, as I thought it looked perfect in the space and worked with both the countertop and the backsplash. But then I hired a color consultant that came recommended from several friends. I was unimpressed with her. She thought that White Dove would not work because she thought it would bother me that my trim on the windows and on the pantry door did not match the cabinet color and she recommended Chantilly Lace. In my opinion, Chantilly Lace looks too white. I have a sample of White Dove, and I think it looks well with both the backsplash and the counter. I could hire another color consultant, but I was completely turned off by the earlier experience. Beth has me wanting to check out other whites, such as Simply White and Oxford White. I had found a Design Dilemma thread where the question was "Simply White or White Dove," and the majority (overwhelming majority) said they liked Simply White more than White Dove. Do you have an opinion on that? I am totally open to trying colors other than White Dove, but, again, I thought it worked until the color consultant told me she thought it would bother me. I do not want to repaint all my trim. Do you think my cabinets can be a little off white and have it look okay with the trim around the windows and the pantry door? Should I consider painting my pantry door (versus the trim)?
