Can you post a pic?

I just took pictures but my phone and computer aren't allowing me to transfer to my computer for some reason or to photobucket. It's been a long time since I downloaded pictures and now I don't seem to know how.

The sheets are almost brown where the color was faded out. wish I could post a picture because I got part of the top sheet in the second one and there's a big difference in the colors.

She told me she hadn't used it all year, until the very last week or so she was there. She actually had an allergic reaction to it, after using it for many years and then starting it back up...according to her. The sheets are bleached out even at the foot of her bed.

We had a guest for a few nights a long time ago, a young man about 19 or 20. Some product he used in his hair totally discolored/bleached out the pillowcases all the way to the pillow. Ended up throwing both of them out. Have no idea what he was using.

Was your guest using a retinol cream product perhaps?

Pudgeder, I have no idea. I've never seen anything like this before.

If you want to keep using the sheets, perhaps you could do some type of tie-dye effect to disguise the streaks? Perhaps using bleach for part of the process and fabric dye for another ?

If you dye them the color won't be even because of the splotches being lighter.

Kath...did the exchange student do her own laundry..or help with laundry? Any possiablity that bleach could have been used when it shouldn't have?

As for the bath towel....what about cleaning sprays..do you have any that contain chlorine bleach? Maybe someone cleaned the bath and still had chlorine on their hands when they dried off..maybe the girl got a makeup stain on the towel and grabbed the bath cleaner not realizing what could happen...the sheets sound like they were washed with a low dose of chlorine bleach.

There's lots of chemicals in body sweat, but none that I know that could bleach color. Even oxygen bleach won't do this, it will lighten colors but not bleach them like chlorine. Shame you have a good set of sheets in trouble. Elizabeth gives a cute idea about tie dyeing them...very cute Elizabeth.

This sounds like what suntan oil does to our towels and linens at the Maui condo. Some guests also use wash cloths and towels to remove makeup. Blech!

Chisue, somewhere I was, there were black face cloths and towels embroidered "make-up removal."

I'd toss em. Actually, I'd cut them up for cleaning rags, at least get some use out of them,

Kathsgrdn, my spouse and I have noticed that sheets and towels are affected like that every time our adult son comes for a visit. Ours are green, and I have noticed on some other items that green dyes just don't seem to be that stable (but they discolor evenly), but his effect on linens is a puzzle. I had thought about benzoil peroxide, but doubted he uses it. Maybe I'll actually ask him. They are such big, bleached out blotches. I really thought it must be his perspiration---which does have chlorine ions, after all-- salt, NaCl.

She washed her own bedding, but the top sheet is perfect-no weird staining. No bleach was used. I don't even have bleach near the washing machine. No issues with Nana's sheets either, they are the same exact ones. Only Michelle's pillow case and bottom sheet were affected. I thought some weird chemical reaction between her sweat and some lotion she was using might be the reason. Tie dying sounds like a good idea. They were expensive sheets bought dirt cheap on sale. I'd hate to throw them away.

I agree to use them as rags. Really, who would feel comfortable sleeping on these sheets looking the way they do?

Sometimes odd things would happen to colored towels, and I just assume it was DD's facial products.

Treat yourself to new bedding. Catch a sale, Memorial Day coming up, or go to Marshall's, TJ Max or Home Goods.

My late husband's colored cotton tee shirts had 'bleached' streaks on the shoulders and sleeves, where he would wipe his face and brow as he sweated, when working outside. I couldn't figure out what was happening to bleach just those spots, until I saw him wiping his face one day. No bleached sheets, but I've noticed certain pillowcases (green, as matthias_lang mentioned) have bleached or faded.

I wear his old tees when I work in the garden, and often wipe my sweaty face on the shirttails. No bleach streaks there, so it must have been something in his sweat.

Good sheets as Kath is dealing with are not cheap to replace..sure I've seen some great Italian sheets in TJ Maxx but that's rare. If Kath was dealing with a low quality sheet I'd probably say use it as rags, but this isn't the case so I understand her wondering what's caused this in order to prevent it happening again...

I still think Elizabeths idea of tie dyeing is great...save them for teens or young people who would love this.

Mamapinky, Kath just mentions good sheets, not a brand. God sheets can mean different things. Since these are for guest, I'm sure she can find something within her budget.

If you google the words "perspiration bleach fabric" you will see that this is not uncommon.
