Help with my pitiful bedroom
We need to buy a new bed, and I am trying to decide if I should go with another queen or get a king. I have become a very light sleeper, and I think having a larger bed will help me get a better sleep if DH is restless. We could fit a king sized bed in the current "bed" spot, but we would definitely need new nightstands (which I eventually wanted to do anyways). I could also put the bed against the windows. It would open up the room....but is that weird to put the bed against the windows when i have another wall to use? Once I decide the bed size, then I will look for furniture, a rug, lamps, etc.

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoAre you planning on keeping the shutters? If you are, I don't think a king will work on that wall especially because the window is off center. If you don't care about the shutters, maybe you could cover the window with wall to wall draping and put a king bed there, but that would basically make the room look windowless. If you choose to keep the bed where it is now, I'd stick with the queen size.
The draping can be quite pretty, but all the examples I could find had secondary windows to keep it from looking too dark.

7 years agoI think a king would fit just fine on the wall you're using now, esp with smaller nightstands. It would only be 18" wider, not much when you split the difference on 2 sides. If you wanted to make it work under the windows, I think you could. You may have to move the tv and console to the wall at the foot of the bed with the dresser, but if you did that, I think the bed could be centered under the middle window. No headboard, of course (well, I wouldn't, but I guess you could), the shutters could do double duty.
I would never sacrifice the comfort of getting a good night's sleep in a king for what may or may not be an easier-to-arrange-the-room-around queen.
Okay, there are lots of examples of headboards with shutters behind and it looks terrific, so I was wrong about that...

I thought I should pop in here for a quick update (I just hate when people post a question and never update their resolution!). It took almost 2 years but I'm finally at a good place with the bedroom decor. We ended up putting the bed up against the window because of symmetry and it also opened up a big space at the foot of the bed where we can play with our dog. Comments (8)Check on an appraisers forum to see if there would be any difference in value. Unless you are getting cash for the sale or a large down payment from the buyer the appraisal will be the determining factor if you actually get more at the sale. If you do this change, do it for yourself and not for resale. If you do this change, make sure you don't make the current floorplan dysfunctional as that will take value away. If you are using the exact same square footage and not adding any, then it is doubtful that your home would add value but you would need to get twin sales in the area to see how much, if anything, is added to the value. It may open up the buyer pool and sell more quickly though. Comments (28)Can you get a picture with the curtains pulled back and daylight coming in? The ceiling light is extremely harsh and unflattering, and makes it difficult to get a feel of things. One thing for sure I'd consider is painting the walls a softer off-white color. It would really compliment the room and features better than bright white, I think. With the busy patterns/tones of both the curtains and your flooring, yes, I’d go for a neutral, solid, soft rug with a bit of texture.
