Why is (almost) everything on HMF rated to zone 6b?
Comments (15)I think this points out something very important about HMF: the members who use it are asked to submit information about the roses they grow and where they grow them. If you grow a specific variety of Hybrid Tea (or whatever) that shows significantly better Winter hardiness than most others, then by all means submit a Comment on the item's Comments tab to indicate that you have grown "Rose X" in zone 5 with no protection, etc etc. The Comment's tab is one of the most useful options on HMF as long as we the growers submit our personal experiences for others to learn from. As for the default Zone listings for many roses on HMF: the information should be viewed in much the same way you look at the Manufacturer's Suggested List Price when buying a car or a Television....See MoreIs zoning a system so difficult?
Comments (6)The problem with zoning residential cooling systems is that the cooling needs now vary depending on the zoning. Residential systems do not have an accumulator to store excess liquid refrigerant. They depend on the liquid line alone to hold liquid. This causes problems if the system cooling load changes. Even systems with two capacities accomplish this by using two different compressors. Run a smaller unit when demand is low, or extended running for humidity control is needed. Run the larger compressor when full capacity is needed. This also is why residential systems often do not dehumidify well in the spring and fall. The unit is over-sized during these periods (low demand based on temperature) and short cycles, not removing enough humidity. If the zoning results in a small change in required capacity, the bypass systems can work. If the zoning creates major changes in cooling demand (>~30%) all sorts of problems can show up since the equipment cannot be sized for two different loads. Think about the problem. Your entire house needs 3 tons. Remove a portion and the demand falls to 2 tons....See MoreWhy are dryer vents so difficult to hook up?
Comments (15)seriously, we just took almost an entire day to hook ours up. We currently had aluminum ductwork that leaked lint and the flapper was probably original to the house, and didn't close due to the lint holding it open. Hence lots of flies were entering the basement laundry. I had went to lowes and bought everything possible for this new chore, hoping we wouldn't have to make a trip to the local hardware store. But, guess what, trip to Ace was in order. We had the darndest time getting the semi-rigid hose connected to the duct work, and finally gave up on that because it kept unwinding. Then we used the aluminum flexible hose, which still wouldn't connect because some idiot decided that a 4 inch opening won't fit into/over another 4 inch opening. Why don't they make these a bit smaller so they will fit together correctly!!! We ended up buying a adapter that had 2 female ends. If we have to ever do this again, I am definitely going to check into the mentioned gadgets below....See MoreWhy do you love my hubby (wife) or SO so much?
Comments (25)I'm in my mid-40's and only married 3 years. I met DH when I was 40. I like to tell him that if I had to wait this long for him, he was worth it! 1.We match up very well personality wise (though he is introverted and I am extroverted--like islandgal said we balance each other out). 2. We have similar modest family backgrounds, and we both put ourselves through graduate/professional school, so when we met it was almost like we'd known each other. 3. We have similar interests in music and love to go to live music events together. 4. LOL, he was right when he said white for the paneling in the kitchen without realizing there are literally 100 shades of white. He also insisted on granite slab for the countertops. 5. He's not handy, but he at least knows that. We are happy to call professionals for things beyond our capabilities, which is pretty much anything beyond painting. He never had pets and took on me with three cats after we got married. He was at my side when we had to put one down a couple of weeks ago due to kidney failure. He truly loves me for who I am. He likes a woman with curves. Enough said....See Morecaroline94535
