Why do you love my hubby (wife) or SO so much?

In honor of Valentine's Day, I thought I'd start a new thread to say positive things by our spouses or signficant others who have endured our GW TKO world.

I'll start. My hubby is super sweet. He didn't see anything wrong with our "before kitchen" yet he understood that it mattered to me. He contributes ideas and lots and lots of labor to our DIY project. He constantly asks things like "Are you sure this is the way you want it, because if it's not we can redo it..."

He has takes time out of his busy day to pick up my child (his stepson) to haul him to after school activities.

He took over handling dinner and homework several nights a week because in addition to my full time job, I am taking classes at night.

He always does the laundry because I hate doing laundry. He even remembers to air dry nearly all my stuff so it doesn't shrink.

He actually likes to clean and will wash floors, windows, walls, bathrooms etc. without being asked.

He washes dishes after I cook and has taught my son that the cook should never have to do the dishes so now even if it's just my son and I home for a night, my son will say, "Mom, go relax. You cooked. I'll do the dishes."

He talks me off the ledge when I get too stressed out from the DIY kitchen project, full time job, school and family obligations.

Yep, I think he's a keeper. Many of my friends ask me if he has a twin. I feel blessed.

i'll play!
mine is so strong--battling cancer for years with a smile and never a complaint.
he loves the kitties and horses and never complains about the cost. he cooks fabulous things for me, buys me stacks of my favorite candy bars, lets me sleep in when insomnia hits, and is sweet and handsome. he is my protector, my partner, my lover and thinks my remodleing ideas are good ones.
and those broad shoulders and muscular arms still make me weak in the knees, even after twenty years!

Deburn, try not to worry about mites; if you do you'll never have another plant in your home. lol. Most, if not all tropical plants attract mites, though I admit some plants are more susceptible than others. On a scale from 1-5, 1 being the least chance, MOO's come in about 2. As long as a MOO is cared for, 'like any other plant,' you'll have nothing to worry about. I don't know what type of plants you have, or how many, but you can bet any plant can attract mites. Everytime you bring a new plant home, there's a chance of hitch-hiking mites and/or other pests on the new plant. This happens quite often. One well-known nursery, 'perhaps I shouldn't name it now,' is notorius for sending plants with bugs. One member here purchased plants from this nursery, and found four different types of insects on one plant. He isn't the only one who's dwelt with this problem from the same nursery. Although I detest mites, 'who doesn't except for other mites, lol,' there are many other insects much harder to rid/kill, like Mealy. Ohh, Chaz..how scary..Did your plant have more than one hornet or a whole nest? What did you do? Let me tell you what happened to me this summer.. I keep small plants in window boxes on a picnic table. Although there are holes in the window boxes, they sometimes clog. Sure enough, one window box, holding succulents, was filled with water, to the brim of the box. I removed the succulents, then tilted the box over, to toss water out. A good portion of water fell on another plant beside the table. All of a sudden I felt a sharp pain on my leg, then a second. I started screaming. I didn't know what was happening. I ran, and felt another pain, this time on my hand between thumb and finger. My son was standing outside while this was happening. I was in a state of panic, so I ran in the house, screaming and crying. It turned out, a nest of, I think honey bees were living in the pot beside the table. Guess they got scared when water landed in the pot/their nest, and attacked me. I got stung 5 times. The worse was the one on my hand..That thing swelled. Never being stung by a bee, I checked the puter, for remedies..That's when I saw Danger and Warnings. Bascially allergic reactions. I got so scared, I blacked out! My son called 911..lol..Well, turns out I frightned myself, which is the reason I blacked out. The paramedics assured me I was okay. If I had been allergic I wouldn't be talking. Anyway, sorry didn't mean to write a short story, lol. One lesson I learned, NEVER check the puter for remedies after something happens. lol..Learn ahead of time. Anyway, I think those darn bees are still living in my pot, though they're weak. I don't know what to do. I don't want to leave the plant out to freeze, however, I sure don't want repeat stings. Allergic or not. I don't use chemicals..Do you know how to tell if bees are living in the soil, and how I can rid them, organically? I really don't want to kill them, just get rid of them. Years ago, I feared bees, later, ignored them. After getting stung you'd think I wouldn't want to be near another bee, but I don't feel this way..Spiders are another thing..if there were a nest of spiders living in a plant, plant and spiders could winter outside. I HATE spiders. So, do you have any advice? Did the queen live? Is she still in your pot? Or, did she fly elsewhere? You flavor water/tea with MOO flowers? Is it sweet? Do you let sit before drinking? That's interesting? They're not poisonous? lol.. Toni

I wholeheartedly agree with all that has been said, but here's another wonderful thing about gardening. We moved into a brand new neighborhood five years ago, and homes are still being built all around us. As new neighbors come, I am out in my yard "doing". It's easy to say hello, and strike up a conversation since you're out anyway. As a matter of fact, I planned a streetside flower border for that express purpose. I want to know my neighbors! I am very proud to report that although this is a pretty pricey, gated community, so far every neighbor, but one, does at least part of their own gardening and lawn care. I believe it's "peer pressure". I was here almost first. I enjoy it, I'm proud of it, and I share plants and tips. Gardening has brought us together as a community. Just tonight the OB/GYN across the street who had never owned a lawn mower till he moved here, brought me two bare-root DAYLILIES that he and his wife bought at the garden show they attended on their vacation last week! He bought a dozen for himself and has already planted them! I personally consider that a triumph! :) Gardening is about the perfect hobby in my opinion. It can be expensive, but it can also be very inexpensive. It can be exotic, spiritual, AND practical. Virtually any age, gender, educational level or social class can do it. There's a place for the artistically inclined, for the o-c collector, and for the totally practical types. You are never too young and (almost) never too old. You can garden if you own acres of land, and garden if you only have a single pot. And finally...I feel very close to God in my garden. After all, that's where life began.

I'm sure your intentions were well Gorgi, I have 3 very good friends who live in Corleone, Provincia Di Palermo, Sicilia. Alot of Americans inparticular go to the village to visit and all talk about the Mafia. Corleone was never really known for the Mafia or Cosa Nostra, ect. The only reason why the godfather movies was centered around Corleone was it was cheap to film there as the main Actor, Al Pacino, All his family was in real life from the Town. The Pacino family was very welcoming to the film crew ect. Al did say they were a little concerned with the Mafiosa aspect of the movie, and that villagers were angry they would support the filmcrew there for bringing such a horrible stereotype to the people in the town. I heard from someone who said that anytime the word Corleone comes up, they think of the Mafia. Most of the People in Corleone hate that negative aspect of the movie and what it brought to their beautiful area of the world. Would you agree however that to answer Brigita's original post was that the Sal's Corleone is a rare fig to have due to the mixup with the names. One could say that that kinda brought up the hipe about this particular variety, considering that Belleclaire was the original owners of the Sal's Corleone, then with the mixup at Edible landscaping comparing two very distinctive trees, Hardy Chicago and Sal's as being the same. I would imagine if you could trace your sal's Corleone somehow to the Original Belleclaire that would be a real find considering how people swapped and butchered up the name? And also with there being two trees named sal's. I kinda wanted the tree for my Uncle Sal due to the namesake. Wonder if anyone else has any answer to Brigita's original question. I would Assume the Di'Paola brothers got it from a Siciliano named Sal who most likely brought it from his homeland in Corleone. Whatya think gorgi? Ciao

Here is why I love fishing! Preliminary effort: no, I'm not baiting a hook with this thing, I am cleaning my first catch :) Soon thereafter, success! Was actually approached by numerous men asking for tips on my technique (no one else had any luck)(technique commonly referred to as Beginner's Luck). I caught my limit while the men (for some reason, everyone else was male) were getting nary a bite. Wives were sneaking over to "You go, girl!" me. A proud moment, though I felt sorry for my dh, who returned from a halibut excursion empty handed to learn that while I'd been practicing my cast, I'd caught a limit of salmon. Then, on two separate days, I was the only one to catch king salmon, much to the chagrin of the 2 men and my dh who were also trying. I had to put one back because it was over my limit. To his credit, my dh was very proud of me and likes to tell the story of my success. Oh, the above fishing trips took place in Alaska.

Can I join in? My DH is my rock. I can whine, moan, retreat to my bed to get away from it all, and he'll pick up the pieces. He's stalwart - all through our nightmare renovation, he's been the one to deal with the difficult personalities and get in people's faces when necessary. He rarely complains and takes my complaints in stride. He's a decent, good, honest and upright person and I'm lucky to have him in my life.

I love my husband because he can fix almost anything. We borrowed a neighbors snow blower during the blizzard and it broke right away. The part was a plastic gear that cracked in the center where it is attached. He fixed it once and it broke again. Then he pondered for a while (he's very good at pondering), came up with a fix that got the machine going, and was able to dig us out (1,000 ft long panhandle driveway). We've been married 34 years (after dating for 7 years), and I wouldn't trade for anything.

I love my husband because he brings calmness and peace to my life. He's a man that has great integrity and humility, a gentleman in all respects. And although I did not go with wood stained cabinets or dark verde vecchio granite, as he suggested, and instead went with the (oh, Yeah, that fatiguing-to-some-people-white-with marble) he supports my decisions every step of the way, and is happy that I am happy with our new kitchen.

The other day, I was talking on the phone. My husband brought a pair of socks and put them on my feet as he thought it was too cold to be without socks. It felt so caring and sweet, because I am always cold in the winter.
He is a hard worker, disciplined, and a great father to our children. He is committed and I can count on him. He has been a great role model to our boys in teaching them to be self-respectful, strong, confident, to take good care of their health, and to be loving towards others.

I, love my husband, because he, is a GC, with his own co. And for the last year he, has been going out doing other peoples kitchen's and bathroom's than on the weekend's he, work's on our's. He, say it is so hard to come home and work on our kitchen, after doing that kind of work all week. My husband, can do anything. Build our kitchen table.Put his own engine in a truck once. Our UPS man ask him once if he, walks on water to. sharaz

I am the 'idea-girl,' but my hubby is the 'make-it-happen-guy.' Neither works very well without the other! We work best as a team.

On our 3rd date, he mentioned his dream was to build his own house. Interested in architecture, I asked him what kind he wanted to build. He said, "Whatever kind you want." :-) It took us 22 more years before we broke ground for that dream, and we built the kind of home we both wanted...with our kids helping. That's another thing I love about him...How he has the kids work along side him, even if it might take a little longer, which now it doesn't because they've become so skilled, too.

I love that he loves to cuddle...TMI? :-)

I love that the man who said he'd never have kids turns into mish mush when his four year old tells him he loves him :) That as big as his pie in the sky dreams are...I know he'll actually accomplish them. That he's driven, stuborn, and an amazing hard worker...these last three also are annoying as heckfire when he's in my way LOL

I love that he loves me for who I am and does not feel the need to change me, nor I him. I love that I can trust him, he's always there when I need him.

I love that for all the things I love him for, I also often want to smack him for the same :) He challenges me, and we grow together.

And he's an amazing cook LOL so without him I'd be mac and cheese for a lifetime instead of fillet mignon and pinot noir :oP

I love my DH for the simple fact that he has put up with me for 42 years! It doesn't hurt that he also has "Paul Newman" blue eyes. He has a huge zest for life and makes every day an adventure.

Ah, "let me count the ways"...

I love my DH because he is the most generous, kind and caring man I know. He gives to me with emotional support, physical support, financial support, and never ever wants me to be anything different than I am. He is thoughtful toward others far more than I, and I admire him so for his caring personality.

I love my DH because he is about the smartest, cleverest person I know and his wit is so quick I am always laughing.
(Yes, it does give me heartburn that he actually is "right" 99% of the time! But hey, if he can make my heart laugh so much of the time, what's a little heartburn!)

I love my DH because he loves our old house as much as I do and works on it with great care as hard as I do. And because he never met a kitty he didn't like!

I love my DH because he has strength of character that doesn't hold with hypocrisy. He's his own man. I'll leave it at that!

I love my DH because he loves the mountains and their ecosystems "even more than the sea".

I love that he actually likes to travel with me, even though his nature and background make it a challenging adventure for him every time. He steps out of that comfort zone and takes my hand and we go!

And yes, I love him because he does the dishes every night and the laundry too :-) .

We'll be married 25 years this June and a better friend, partner, lover I could not have!

Wow, there are a lot of long-standing marriages on this thread. Neat. We have some good men.

I already posted about my DH of 10 years on another thread, but I will just say that I genuinely admire him. He gives 180% to everything he puts his hand to and he excels - at work, at home, as a person.

I delight in watching him try his hand at new things in this renovation (like the plumbing), starting with zero knowledge and ending fully capable and confident.

He has so much strength of character and integrity, and I love the model that he is for our kids.

I love how he adores our dog too.

I love how he takes care of himself and has worked out 4 or 5 times a week for the last 6 years or so.

I love how he works so hard and is so confident, strong, and steady. He knows who he is.

I love how my husband's goals, values, and dreams are right in line with mine. I love having a partner who is kind hearted, compassionate, and would move heaven and earth to see me smile.

where to start...

-he has made me coffee every morning for 25 years
-he learned to say "everything will be alright"
-he's quirky/playful/goofy with kids and animals - and me
-he rocks jeans, a tuxedo and his leathers (50k on the Harley)
-he's battled awful illness with relentless determination
-he feeds the birds
-he trusts my ideas and vision 100%, however tortured the journey
-he would do anything to make me happy
-he would never ever say or do anything to hurt me

I think I'll keep him.

Because when I dropped the full bottle of "I'm not really a waitress" red nail polish on the new marble tile floor in the master bathroom and it broke and splattered the tiles and grout and splashed up the wall he just suggested I call the contractor. And when I did it again (the new bottle) 2 weeks after the tile was replaced he just suggested I start getting professional pedicures.

you all have some awesome men! I'm so glad to read that such good ones still exist in this world! give them a hug for me and tell them they are priiceless! you are all very, very blessed! I think they must be also.

I was married before, I dated my husband for 6 yrs and never thought I would marry again. I had a young son at the time any thought bringing someone else into our lives would only complicate things. I was 34 when I met him. At 38 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Wanted to set him free he married me anyway. He works a physical job is as manly as man could be but still does the laundry and supports this family( I had to retire from a very lucrative career) and he has raised my son and loved him as his own. He is big and strong on the outside but a big teddy bear on the inside. I think he was sent by someone up above and I thank my lucky stars everyday for him. We just celebrated our 10th anniversary. Thank God my son was 4 and cute when I met him and not 17 and not so cute like he is now! Just Kidding! Happy Valentines Day!

I love my DH more after this whole house renovation than I ever have.

He was not particularly caring, warm, thoughtful or romantic when I met him, but somehow I saw a "diamond in the rough" and through these 18 years has proven me right in picking him to nurture along.

He has never understood my penchant for decorating or having a pretty home, but god love him, he has indulged me for the past 12 months in this other "diamond in the rough" project of fixing up an old rancher. Not only has he indulged me, but he has held his tongue over costs and has kept his patience with the length of the project.

AND, this is the crazy part: he has lived with my mom for these past 12 months without losing his temper, getting too frustrated, or feeling resentment. He has shown his love for me in all this and that's why I think he is amazing....he truly believes in me and will support me whether or not he agrees with me.

I have heard stories about couples that have been torn apart by remodels and I am SOOOOO lucky that we have been the opposite.

I love my DH so much because whenever life seems really
scary, stressful, upside down, falling apart, the mountain
to high to get over, life just black beyond belief....
He holds me and makes me laugh. He has such an amazing
sense of humor that my face, belly and body ache from
the laughter. He reminds me why life is so wonderful.
He will tease me like I am his 5th grade crush.

He is my pillar of strength, my hero, my knight in
spotless armor, my bestfriend, confidant and yes
dreamy lover.

I can not imagine life without him. Throughout my kitchen
renovation which was minor compared to all the other
things life has thrown at us he has made me laugh.

Wow! If my DH traveled alone... and I didn't trust him 100%... I would ask to see pictures! So much of what many of you have said also describe my DH. I won't repeat, just want to add to the long list that when we woke up to a sick puppy at 4:30am and to snow still on the ground and icy roads, he didn't even ask if I wanted him to drive us to the vet appointment later this morning. But he's dressed and ready to go.

My hubby doesn't give event gifts (for example Valentine's day gifts) yet this morning (one day before VD) when I came to my computer sitting on my chair was a beautiful new bread knife replacing the 32 YO one in the drawer. He has always supported my TKO addiction with really nice kitchen equipment, etc. because he knows that I won't buy it for myself.

I really love him because when I walk in the door after a long day at work, I see his smiling face and that special glint in his eye, immediately relax and realize I am still in love after all these years (24 and counting).

I love my DH because:
1. He was willing to demo the whole kitchen singlehandedly without a complaint. He took the whole thing, cabinets and lath-and-plaster down to the studs, I hauled out. We're a good team.
2. Several of his friends told him to shut up and write the checks. He did. I am grateful!
3. He loves the kitchen now as much as I do. He delights in people's comments, and has had folks come by to see "Donna's kitchen."
4. He still found a way, budget-wise, to have us go to Haiti for Christmas to stay with our son. He stayed an extra week with our other son for a father-and-sons motorcycle ride. They came back to the States, the quake hit, and my DH's first instinct was to go back and help. He'll need to wait to do it, but that's his heart.
5. He's a chaplain and counselor in a huge retirement facility. So many people talk to him, always in confidence, and he bears their stories and grief with tremendous grace. I know what I have, and I think he's the best guy ever.

I love my husband because he is a sweetie pie and

1. He accepts me for who I am without trying to change me for the past 15 years we have been married.
2. He is away having surgery on his hand and for Valentines and made reservations at my favorite restaurant for lunch with two of my friends.He then left an envelope with the voucher with a note that am not to open it before the 12th of this month, I peeked anyway.
3. He loves animals and plants.
4. He makes me laugh
5. I would marry him all over again.
6. He balances our marriage...I am the spitfire and he is the coolant.
7. He is not a fix it guy but he is married to a fix it gal.
8. We are renovating our kitchen and it was he who suggested that we go ahead and says whatever I decide to do it is ok with him (as long as it is within the budget).

I'm in my mid-40's and only married 3 years. I met DH when I was 40. I like to tell him that if I had to wait this long for him, he was worth it!

1.We match up very well personality wise (though he is introverted and I am extroverted--like islandgal said we balance each other out).
2. We have similar modest family backgrounds, and we both put ourselves through graduate/professional school, so when we met it was almost like we'd known each other.
3. We have similar interests in music and love to go to live music events together.
4. LOL, he was right when he said white for the paneling in the kitchen without realizing there are literally 100 shades of white. He also insisted on granite slab for the countertops.
5. He's not handy, but he at least knows that. We are happy to call professionals for things beyond our capabilities, which is pretty much anything beyond painting.

He never had pets and took on me with three cats after we got married. He was at my side when we had to put one down a couple of weeks ago due to kidney failure.

He truly loves me for who I am. He likes a woman with curves. Enough said.

Today is our 29th Anniversary.

I love him because I can trust him completely, he's my best friend and always has my best interests in mind. He's a hard worker and built a business that he started from scratch and sold it just recently, achieving a goal that many people thought was pie in the sky!

We were on a fishing trip off the coast of Cabo san Lucas last month when I thought he collapsed of a heart attack or stroke! On the 45 minute ride back to the marina, where the ambulance was waiting I prayed to God to please make it a mild heart attack or a mild stroke. I thought everything was going to change! It was determined after several tests in the hospital, that the blood pressure meds he started the week before lowered his BP to a dangerous level. So my prayers were more than answered!

He does like to eat crackers in bed and I've always complained about that. But not so much this last month!
