Do you like Sherwin Williams paints?
Comments (24)snookums2: I used BM's satin impervo oil-based for the cabinets (once I switched from SW). I'm in California, and had read that it was no longer available, but not true! My BM guys that I've worked with for years swear that it's still the best, along with cabinet coat (couldn't use in my application because I neede a dark base) and a couple of high-end brands. I had concerns about the VOCs around my kiddos, but we decided to open every window and keep them at the grandparents' for a couple of days, so I felt ok about using it. As a side note, I used far less paint with the oil; actually the entire can, so maybe it balanced out from an environmental perspective?:) I agree that when comparing paint lines, you must do an "apples to apples " comparison. Still, I have successfully used BM's lowest grade "ultraspec" and have been thrilled every time. Totally my opinion, but I think BM covers better than SW and has better consistency. I have also used Aura in a few rooms, and for me it was streaky, dried waaaay too quickly to get even coverage, and was over priced. Frankly, I find it over-hyped, but again, just my opinion....See MoreSherwin Williams vs. Ben. Moore vs. Behr
Comments (118)Out of the choices Above I'd say BM is your best bet. Behr products are too watered down and their white is more of a gray so that effects the way the colors comes out when tinted. Stay away from SW they are a bit better than behr but they over price for the amount of TITO in their paint as well. BM offers a beautiful color selection and has an exellent product. HOWEVER I would love to put Dunn Edwards in the running here. We have an amazing selection of nearly 2,000 colors (not mention custom color mathces we can do), a superior paint product and a FREE Professional Color Advisor service (that's me) . Plus we have a ton of "kill test" listed on our website and in our store comparing each of our products to the competition. (: but like I said BM is a nice choice!...See MoreBenjamin Moore vs. Sherwin Williams?
Comments (60)My husband and I painted our whole house with Home Depot Behr Ultra Scuff Defense Stain Blocking paint and primer; flat for walls and ceilings, and satin for doors and moldings. We used fine quality paint brushes and rollers. The paint handled beautifully and is quite durable and looks great. We took our time, lightly sanded all doors and moldings first, washed and rinsed all walls and ceilings prior to painting. We did all the correct prep work. I even got a 10% military discount ( I am a retired Air Force Captain). Our house looks great! I have used BM and SW in past homes I lived in. BEHR is just as good. I painted my front door about 10 years ago, also with BEHR and it looks as good as the day I painted it. We since replaced our front door with a high end fiberglass door, and plan to paint it with BEHR when the pollen dies down in the air. I can also assure you that there is no professional painter that would have ever taken the time to do all the prep work my husband and I did prior to painting. We are semi retired and have the luxury to take the time to do a great paint job! I have read countless Houzz threads on botched professional paint jobs in expensive homes. As my Dad always says: if you want the job done right, do it yourself....See MoreWhich Sherwin Williams color? Need help!
Comments (2)My personal favorites are Relaxed Khaki and Mindful Gray for walls with Extra White (semi-gloss) for trim. Tricorn Black is great for doors as accent pieces....See More4Heidesign
