Bathroom Reveal, Finally.
Comments (62)I love what you've done to the bathroom. It's so elegant and serene. That's really interesting about the larger floors tiles bowing in the center, and I'm so glad I read this. I'm having 5"x32" wood grain Castlevetro tiles put down in my studio and the tile salesman didn't mention this. Do you remember where you read this? I looked at some of Bill Vincent's old posts but I didn't see it. I'd like to show that to my installer because he's never put down this type of tile before. I also wanted to do the 1/16" grout line and ordered the sandless grout, but I may have to rethink this. Again, the salesman said there would be no problem with that. Comments (18)Errant - the vanity lighting is from Home Depot. We got the 3 light at the store and had to order the sconces online. The brand is Progress Lighting and the style is Lynzie Collection. We liked the oval shape of the globes. Yes, they can be hung down but hubs doesn't like looking at the bulbs. Bossyvossy - thanks, hubs is pretty handy. I was rather scared about the installation of the shower panel and door though. We had a local company come out and do the final measurements. they ordered it for us, we paid to have it delivered but hubs and a friend installed it. he spent many hours making sure the opening was straight and level, as he was told we would need to have only a 1/16" opening between the door and panel so there would be no water getting through the opening. So far so good. He put a product called Enduroshield on the inside of the glass so that water runs off. Works pretty well, we do rinse it off and use a squeegy on it but it doesn't spot, even in our hard water. The border just gives a more finished look, I think. I really didn't like the 1"x1"'s but that was the only shower floor tile that matched our wall tile, other than using the larger profile. We chose this tile as it doesn't show water drops, is smooth but not shiny, and to me it gives a clean, spa like feel to the bathroom. We live in Florida, so we don't need the heat lamp year round, but it sure feels good when you get out of the shower, its right above your head. It was the only request I made from the get go, am glad I did....See MoreSplit Bathroom Reveal - Finally!!!
Comments (18)Thanks everyone for the comments. As I mentionned in my previous posts, we are a family of 5 sharing one bathroom on the second floor. It had to be functionnal more than anything else. enduring This is our layout. The wall where the tub and shower are measures 10' and the vanity wall measures 8'. I feel like we accomplished a lot in that tight space. Snaggy and Mary Tillios , I hear you about the mirrors. When we bought the house, the bathroom wasn't split, and had 3 walls completely mirrored. I didn't like the look of it. But after living in in for a few years, I got addicted to them! It made the room seem much larger and made haristyling a bliss. When we demolished, the room seemed so small and dark without them. This is why we put so many mirrors back and because they were the last thing installed, we got to see the before and the after, and it made such a big difference. cindylou62 I agree! Unfortunately, one of our cats has a wet rug fetish and pees on bathroom rugs every single time we forget to hang them. I will be buying new towels eventually and will try something more fun than the white or grey that we currently have. bpath reads banned books too I love our toilet too :) Thanks for noticing! If I remember correctly, you were one of the ones that convinced me to use some of Ikea's bathroom line. So glad I did!...See MoreBathroom Reveal! Microcement, Regrets and Loves, Green and Browns
Comments (17)Thanks! It was done fresh over backerboard. We used topciment. It took a lot more layers and labor than I expected and the plaster specialist who did it underestimated his cost so thay was disappointing. It did turn out nice though and we really wanted the no grout look. I really recommend getting color samples first and also using someone who knows about waterproofing etc. Our person was not experienced as there weren’t a lot of options in our area and that was rough. Here’s a closer up pic of guest bath and the tun ans splashback of my primary bath tub which we sid a little lighter. i’ll post that bathroom when it’s done!...See MoreRelated Professionals
