Comments (6)The set shows some influence of the Eastlake style, but I believe it was made later than what is generally considered to be eastlake period. I think this set is closer to the 1920's in style. It appears to have some burl walnut veneer and likely the carving is a hard even grained wood like cherry or maple. The brasses are what said 19th century to me, and the shape of the dressing table. Is that marble on the top of the dresser? it looks to be a very thin piece if it is. The term "king Louis" usually refers to Louis Phillipe, which is the sleigh bed style. Other Louis style's are the rococco of louis 14th and 15th, neither of which this shows. Comments (7)Hey Lilliepad! It'll be about 50 years before I'm tired of the little table, but I'll put you at the top of the list. LOL I love it. It practically vibrates with "happy calm." As for an accent color, I've not decided. I think I want a deep plum; dark red would work, too. I have plum cases on the pillows. They look great with the walls. I think I'll make the drapes a sage-on-sage texture to keep everything monochromatic until I decided on the accents. I agree with not using popcorn ceilings. That stuff is to be avoided at all costs; I'm just thankful there isn't any in this mid-60s house. We've given the ceiling six coats of paint, starting with a coat of good primer, and it still looks blotchy. We're thinking about putting up a faux tin ceiling. It comes in 12x24 panels and is supposedly "easy to install." (Laughing manically, here!) They're a vinyl of some sort; Lowe's sells them in the cabinets section. It's a Pergo floor, "Liberty Oak," off the shelf at Lowe's. We were supposedly going for quick and easy. I'm much happier with it than I thought I'd be. It doesn't have the hollow "thunk" sometimes heard on fake floors. It cleans like a dream, and during all the construction it didn't get one scratch, dent, or ding. It feels "soft" underfoot. Comments (23)I think the bed is beautiful eitehr way and don't think it's the bed itself, but the size your hubby wants, king, that might be the problem your having with it. If that's so you might try explaining to him that you'll have less than three feet on either side of a king size bed. Loosing just short of ten square feet of space when you replace your queen bed with a king bed can make a big difference. Not knowing the exact placement of your windows or any of the doors I didn't add them to the floor plan, but here's an example of floor space with both the queen (in red) and king beds centered on the window wall. Of course this is assuming the walls with the windows in thirteen feet wide. I visually measured that wall assuming your current bed is a queen. I hope this info and drawing helps you both decide what would work best for your room.
