Not finished, but moving into bedroom, 4 pics

New walls, new outlets, new floor, new windows, new blinds, new paint, new trim, new armoire, and almost a new bedroom.

There are several unfinished projects...crown molding, drapery panels, ceiling fan, furniture...but we're enjoying the quiet, restful room.

The tea table I'd been using as a nightstand would not fit along this wall with the bed and other nightstand. While I have every intention of finding a pair of matching night tables...I had to have something to use in the here and now.

Local antique store to the rescue! The top is 20" square; it's 29 1/2 inches tall. I'll find a good use for it in the living room or sewing room after I've found "real" nightstands.

It's not perfect. It's recently been painted a flat black and has a wax finish. I adore it; it has a good karma.

I was going to replace the bi-fold closet door with a white louvered door. The new ones I've found are so lightweight and flimsy I've decided to paint this door the trim color and keep it.

Beaded detail. The last "bead" is a thick, round screw head. It holds the lower shelf in place.

Northwest corner of the bedroom. Imagine crown molding, textured ceiling, handmade quilt, and grommet top panels hung at the windows. I want to find a metal word plaque, with letters about 7" tall that says "Sweet Dreams" to set on top of the armoire.

The floor grates and all the hardware will be brushed nickle. To save tabletop space, I have wall sconces that will be mounted on either side of the bed. Eventually!

Had I been thinking...I could have unpluged the the power cords and made the photo a bit nicer. It was a long day. Ask me how much I love the new "heated blanket!"

I like it. Clean, crisp and warm at the same time...what is the name of the wall paint color? I looks exactly what I want to use in the bath we're re-doing.

Wooo!!! Cat, I am stuck at home because of the snow storm so wandered around here not looking at anything in particular and came upon your thread. I totally agree with you on the shower curtain choice. Regardless of whether I have the money to spare or not, keeping those suckers clean is a nuisance over time. We have a glass shower door that was installed back in 2003 and I can't tell you how much I hate cleaning it. Not that the door is all that dirty, but a shower curtain is way easier, and you can change the look/style whenever you feel like it. Can't do that with a pricey shower door. Anyway, everything looks lovely as usual, including the "prom" dress :-) Love, love those circular tiles, and the floor tiles that look like fabric. Gorgeous. What colour is that again? It looks greyish on my monitor.

Susanka - I would love a list of those deer resistant plants. We want to do some major backyard landscaping in the spring and I would love to be armed with that info. I would hate to spend 500.00 on my new pets lunch. :) The windows we have are Anderson Silver line. Our ceilings are 8ft in the breakfast area and slant up to 16 feet in the great room. Our windows range from 36" wide to 72" wide and are 75" tall. Our builder wanted us to put the deck on the side of the house so we wouldn't have to look at it thru the window. I didn't want the deck on the side because it's less private, wouldn't look right with our home and I wanted the deck to have the best view since we are outdoorsy people. I held my ground but suddenly (because of my builder) worried that I wouldn't like seeing the deck from the inside. All of those worries were for nothing. It doesn't bother me at all. I like being able to see the family from inside and it's not like it totally obstructs the inside view. The only thing I can't see is the patio underneath it. I keep it neat and clutter free so it's a nice view of the deck and is inviting. I definitely feel it was the right decision and I don't think you will be bothered by it at all.

Thanks, everyone! I love sharing this stuff with you. Have you designed a project for a larger hooked rug yet? With your new frame how large of a rug can you create? One of my first hooked projects 20+ years ago was a small rug I designed. Then later I bought a pattern that appealed to me and hooked that. I think both still need to be bound and finished (procrastinating about this step is a problem common to many rug hookers). Currently, the two projects I have lined up are a chair seat (I have five but need one more) and a new cover for my footstool. My new frame (which should arrive in less than two weeks) is the same size as my old one, but both can accommodate any size project, as you just lift the rug up and move it to work on different sections. Here's a story for you: Last night I was trying to come up with a design idea for the hooked chair seat. I looked through one of my books on rug hooking, and got nowhere with that. Then I reached for a book on folk art, thinking as I did so that it had been years since I'd opened it. Inside the front cover I found cut-out patterns my daughter Jill and I had drawn for a quilted table runner I made years ago. I didn't use the horse she drew at the time, but there it was, a perfect size for the chair seat. I feel that I was guided to open that book. Here's a picture of the pattern I drew on the linen burlap last night. I'll do some sort of design in the outer border. Now all I have to do is pick which wools I'm going to use. It's like coloring. :-)

Thanks, ladies. I appreciate all the comments. Casey, the fabric is called "Authentic" by Sweetwater for Moda and the tiny print is dictionary definitions of certain words like simple, authentic, real, natural, etc. It's a really pretty fabric line, I've been using it a lot to make sewing organizers and stuff for my shop. It sells well, too, yay! lol Trin, start your own ornament party! If you can get 6 friends to commit, you each make 6 ornies. And you watch- it will grow and grow! My friend Gayla that hosts our party has a waiting list of people wanting to join. Occasionally someone will drop out or move and then a new person comes in and is welcomed with open arms. Gayla makes a few dishes and provides soft drinks and punch and everyone brings a dish to share and the recipe printed out on cards so we can all take the ones we really liked and make them at home. It's the most fun! And Trin, your ornies sound lovely. Yay for safe shipping! itsmesuzq- if only I could have found some nice MICE fabric for you! lol Yum, yum! Toni, I wish we were having a snow day tomorrow- I have to go to town for jury duty initiation day and it's supposed to be in the low 20's and I know there won't be any place to park nearby, brrr! And think of all the germs we'll all be exposed to 2 weeks before Christmas. Ick. Lousy timing. Maybe you could teach the girls to knit or something? Start with dishcloths! It's a Pittsburg paint color, "Safari." I had it mixed into Dutch Boy's "Dimensions" paint.

Some folks don't seem to care for Dutch Boy paints, but I've had nothing but good luck with them. They go on great, and I've been able to wash them as needed. I can send you the paint code numbers if you wish.

Pretty room and I also love the color of the walls.I LOVE that table! When you're done with it send it to me!LOL What accent colors will you be using? You mentioned textured ceiling.Do you mean the blown on popcorn/cottage cheese one or something else? I would nix the pc/cc kind.I hate that stuff and it is pretty much out of "style" plus if you ever wanted to paint the ceiling,what a mess! Ask me how I know.LOL Crown molding is going to really dress up the room.What kind of floor is that?

Hey Lilliepad! It'll be about 50 years before I'm tired of the little table, but I'll put you at the top of the list. LOL I love it. It practically vibrates with "happy calm."

As for an accent color, I've not decided. I think I want a deep plum; dark red would work, too. I have plum cases on the pillows. They look great with the walls. I think I'll make the drapes a sage-on-sage texture to keep everything monochromatic until I decided on the accents.

I agree with not using popcorn ceilings. That stuff is to be avoided at all costs; I'm just thankful there isn't any in this mid-60s house. We've given the ceiling six coats of paint, starting with a coat of good primer, and it still looks blotchy. We're thinking about putting up a faux tin ceiling. It comes in 12x24 panels and is supposedly "easy to install." (Laughing manically, here!) They're a vinyl of some sort; Lowe's sells them in the cabinets section.

It's a Pergo floor, "Liberty Oak," off the shelf at Lowe's. We were supposedly going for quick and easy. I'm much happier with it than I thought I'd be. It doesn't have the hollow "thunk" sometimes heard on fake floors. It cleans like a dream, and during all the construction it didn't get one scratch, dent, or ding. It feels "soft" underfoot.

Monica...You'll have mail as soon as I dig out the paint can.

Very nice, Caroline!

I love that little table. Did you know that decorators don't "do" matching bedside tables so much anymore? I think you should keep it there!
