I'm having a hard time relating thus far pictures to the house. It's best if you stand in line with the center of the house and show the complete scene, from far left to far right in slightly overlapping pictures, while the camera remains at one location for all pictures, merely pivoting. Be sure to include the house as one would normally view it, not just pictures of ground space.

Is it the back yard where privacy is desired? What are goals and objectives for the front yard?

Ok, sorry about that. This thread is only for the backyard where privacy is needed, and the pics are only from the backyard, I created a panorama of the backyard.

In this pic I am looking at the screen-covered back porch, we have plans to re-do that back porch and create some paver or brick patio around it, but that is way far from now.

I do want to throw this out there that I have been considering dwarf korean lilacs for the right side of the image ( property line) with some small line of boxwoods at their feet to cover the woody areas during when they are at their best, I mentioned that dead-looking shrub in the image is gonna go because is partially dead, I think is rose of sharon and those burgundy ones will stay in... now the original images will make sense.

I would not plant a hedge and also plant a row of boxwood at its feet. Instead, plant a hedge and trim it properly so that its foliage goes all the way to the "floor" when it is leaf. It is possible to keep foliage to the bottom of a shrub/hedge for its entire life if trimmed properly. But a boxwood hedge at the base of another hedge would block light and prevent bottom foliage of the larger hedge to exist. Keeping lower foliage is all about light reaching to the base of the shrub.

Check out this searchable shrub-by-size website. I would not use a different shrub type at each side of the yard any more than I would use different materials and appearance to create different walls of an indoor room.

Lilacs make gorgeous privacy hedges, lots of examples around where I live, border of zone 5 and six. I lived in a house with a mock orange shrub border between the back yard and the street. Ubiquitous most of the time but fun when in bloom, great smell. Where I work now has a shrub border of spirea. Lots of good options, don't give up hope!
