Low profile (height) hood--baffles or mesh really superior?
Comments (27)There is no single filter type that collects aerosol grease particles of all sizes within the particle spectrum generated by cooking (possibly excluding intense UV conversion of grease to gases.) One can tour on-line advertisements for commercial filters and see what part of the particle spectrum they are designed for and how well they work over part of the spectrum. What you hope for in a residential hood is that you collect the larger particles in the filter and the smaller particles exit the ducting before they can condense on the ducting. The result will always be imperfect relative to the goal. Deposition depends on what sizes pass the filter (baffles or mesh, usually) and the velocity of the air in the ducting, and the temperature of the ducting. Note that Magic Lung centrifugal grease slinging is not that different from how baffles work to collect grease. Like baffles, the Magic Lung squirrel cage fan can only impinge the larger particles against the assembly wall. The fine ones stay as an aerosol in the air flow and are passed up the duct. kas...See MoreDo you have a screen door on your front door?
Comments (34)Thanks for posting your photo (again), lacombe. That's a good close-up view of the Phantom Screen Door. That must be the cartridge on the left. It looks neat and it seems that it doesn't interfere with the threshold. And by the way, that's a lovely color blue on your door trim. So if I understand correctly, Phantom Screens are installed professionally and RetractAway Screens, on the other hand, come in a kit. And chay, it sounds like they're not so easy to install. Bug Off screens sound good for a temporary solution during those perfect days - would probably save on air conditioning also. Also, I'm curious. When I looked at full-view storm and screen combination doors I wondered how long it takes and how much strength is required to swap the window for the screen. Do they come with some kind of sleeve for storage?...See Morelow profile door knob
Comments (8)The door from the garage should be as secure as any other exterior door. Thieves commonly open garage doors from the street with automatic openers and enter a house under the cover of the garage. Security hinges contain small studs that would prevent the door from being easily removed from the garage side. A door to a garage usually only needs to have a solid core but in some states the door panel must actually have a fire rating label but not the hardware or frame for some reason. If there are 2 steps from the garage to the house you cannot open the door over them nor would you want to; someone could be seriously injured. No one expects to open a door and step into space. 2012 IRCR311.7.6 Landings for stairways. There shall be a floor or landing at the top and bottom of each stairway. .... Exception: A floor or landing is not required at the top of an interior flight of stairs, including stairs in an enclosed garage, provided a door does not swing over the stairs....See MorePros and Cons of Low Profile Over the Range Microwaves
Comments (30)I did end up purchasing the Kitchenaid Low Profile microwave. I originally wanted the Zephyr Typhoon 30" Stainless Steel Quiet Under-Cabinet Range Wall Hood AK2100BS. I could have done without a microwave (I never use it) but another family member uses one daily and we have limited counter space to accommodate a microwave on the counter. I like the KitchenAid Low Profile microwave very much. It is very stylish and streamlined, creating a much less bulky appearance than our former standard size OTR microwave. There is a two setting option for the lights and they are very bright. There is a four speed fan and it is somewhat noisy on the highest speed, which I expected. The fan does a fairly good job at removing smoke / odors and I can actually see the cooking smoke / fumes going upwards into the exhaust fan but I still do smell some small residual cooking odors in the home. We have outside venting. I don't do wok cooking or anything extreme so it works for my needs at this time. If I can answer any further questions regarding this item, please let me know....See MoreWindows Direct USA of Cincinnati
