Supplemental order from Naylor arrived
Comments (8)Ken, I don't want to try the local mixes from nurseries here. I'd rather haul it home by the bag, and not worry about getting some home brew with a bumper crop of nematodes and such which my hosta have no resistance to. I'm checking into the bark fines though. And I will visit a crab place down the bayou to see what they do with their crab shells. I am adding the crushed shells to the mix rather liberally. Only a slight smell. :) Making the mix lighter or porous or at least better draining could be helpful. Right? Over the summer I'll be cutting pieces of the hardware cloth to cover my pots with next winter. I lost a few of the really small hosta from squirrel predation. And some the mix did not drain properly. Of the ones that were not doing so well this spring, I tumped them out of the pots, and found mostly too much moisture. So I repotted in a better draining pot, holes on the sides, the pots from WalMart did not work so good, and I almost barerooted the plant (anything that fell away I let go) and then had fresh mix with some crab shell in it. AND small bark pieces, but no fines. Haven't found any fines around this town yet! Thanks, Ken....See MoreYay! Hostas from Naylor Creek Hosta Library Auctions arrived!
Comments (20)Congrats! Those look great. Sounds as though we all spent Labor Day bidding and spending. Good for us! I will also post pics next week when mine arrive. I was hoping to get one of the Ruffed Up. Guess you beat me to it. Lucky you. I meant to ask the Boyz to add one to my order, but forgot. Think I will do that now. I really like that one. This is like Christmas watching everyone open their gifts! Fun. Cynthia...See MoreNaylor order arrived
Comments (6)I bought my first ever mail order hosta from Naylorcreek Nursery back around the "turn of the century". I have ordered from the many times over the years and have never been disappointed. No bonus plants ever, but they often will give you two divisions of some of the newer tc's. Good thing too (for me) as I potted up each "Wheee" division separately back in in 2013 and I lost one this year. That is one I wouldn't want to be without. They are very good at answering e-mail questions too. -Babka...See MoreMy Naylor order arrived, a bit early!
