HELP! Brookgold plum tree split in half

The melting snow just revealed the damage - my Brookgold plum split down the main trunk over the winter, I assume from the weight of the snow on the branches. The tree is about 9 years old. It's pollen partner, a Canada plum, finally reached sexual maturity, and I was hoping to finally have some plums this year. What do I do? Tie the trunk back together? Cut off the main trunk, leaving the single branch below the break/crack (which would make a really ugly tree)?
