how can you tell if your fig tree is dead or alive?
Comments (12)I had a question, it’s helpful to read the threads above. My fig was planted this winter. It is about 5 feet tall. It immediately grew leaves all over the tree this spring and they suddenly, turned yellow and all started to fall off. I did research and found it is most likely rust. I took away all the leaves and then took away a large amount of dirt from the tree as it is clay soil and holding a lot of moisture. I put a bunch of proper dirt in place of the clay dirt. A couple questions!! Will it regrow leaves and how long should it take? I will try to see if the tree has green under the surface (seen as suggestion above), but I’m not sure what to do for it and what to expect....See MorePowdery Mildew - dead or alive?
Comments (4)Hmm..depends where you are and what temperatures you get and the variety of rose. In my garden, mildew isnt stopped by spritzing with water once it starts up- I have to wait til the weather gets hot, or cold enough to kill it off . And some roses just have a bad tendency to mildew. I've never had much luck with Fungicides although that may be because I don't like the idea of spraying, plus I'm too lazy to keep up the constant applications necessary. How old is your Happy Child? Some roses tend to be more susceptible when they're younger - as they get older they grow out of it. Some times better air circulation helps (clear out any undergrowth/underplantings you have around the rose)- or it may be just a bad year temperature wise. The already affected leaves will stay somewhat nasty looking and crinkly, but new growth should be clean once the mildew dies off....See Moreso not sure if they are dead or alive ....
Comments (5)Sorry to hear that, Paul. Well, the good news is that all the big box stores will be stocking cheap dahlias again, and you can try out some new ones! General note to readers: So many folks get disillusioned with dahlia because sometimes overwintering them can be challenging... very few folks try to overwinter pansies and petunias in the colder regions, and the price point can be close to dahlias when all is said and done. There is NOTHING WRONG with choosing to treat dahlias like annuals! Sure, try to overwinter them inside, but don't beat yourself up over it if they fail. Just consider it a bonus if they do well! Search in Houzz for 'dahlia storage," or check out this FAQ link for different storage methods that might work for you in the fall through winter... https://cubits.org/Dahlias/faqs/view/postseasonquestions/ Hope this helps future readers! -CiCi...See MoreTree top dead, trunk is alive. Comments (4)Agree it does look telephone poled. If we're talking Acer ginnala 'Flame' I don't think even a harsh zone 4 winter would kill the top like that unless there was an underling issue: girding roots, planted too deep, verticillium wilt, trunk damage. However, there are also some Acer rubrum selections with Flame in the name....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
