white sac-type growth on tree trunk

jodokus

Overnight, a white thing appeared on the trunk of my tree where a limb had been cut off years ago. ( It's some type of a locust tree). The sac is round and shaped like a cookie. It sort of looks like it's made of meringue, sort of the size of a small/medium-size white meringue cookie. On one side is a small hole. The sac doesn't look like a spider sac because it doesn't look spun at all.

My first thought was that it's some type of fungus. My neighbor says it's from termites pushing out. The tree DOES have termites in it; however, I looked online and don't see any sort of termite-caused thing that looks like this circular white thing.

Whatever this thing is, it appeared overnight. Any ideas? I'm sorry I don't have a way to take a photo of it, but if you picture a small-medium white meringue cookie, that's what it looks like.
