Fridge: Thermadore 36" FD integrated or Subzero 36" FD built in?
Comments (11)We are making the same decision right now -- either sub zero or thermador for a 36" French Door. I'm leaning towards Thermador based on (i) price (cheaper to start, then factor in the free range hood and it beats the sub by a $3k or more); and (ii) some aesthetic aspects, like the integrated look, the LED column style lighting, and that it would match a touch better with a Thermador range (which includes a free dishwasher). Based on name along, and my support of American manufactured products, I wanted the sub, but it's really hard to justify the extra money, particularly when I already have a hard time justifying the extra spend over the price of a Samsung FD which worked just fine for me for 5 years. But I would love to hear if anyone has any other thoughts. When is the Sub Zero 42 inch French Door coming out? I see it in the design guide, so I assume sometime this year....See Morepictures of built in refridgerators both with and without panels,
Comments (12)Hi Fiona44! I think previous posters have done a great job of showing the differences between "built-in" and "fully integrated". We just installed a fully integrated Miele - and it truly disappears - but it was a big splurge for us. I just wanted to also mention that it's really important that the cabinet around the fridge be built to the exact specifications of the refrigerator model - otherwise it may not look right. If you decide to go this route, you'll want to talk with the cabinetmaker and GC to make sure they know how to make it all fit perfectly. Sometimes the printed specifications from the manufacturers don't provide enough information. (you'd think that they would, but apparently not always.) Our cabinetmaker had to come back and install an extra trim piece above the fridge because there was a space above the fridge when the door was open - it wasn't shown in the drawings. It all looks perfect now, but I'm glad the cabinet guy figured out what to do to make it right. Good Luck with your kitchen! You'll thank yourself for taking the time to understand your choices before you start....See MoreBuilt-in versus counter-depth fridge?
Comments (9)I have a built-in fridge now. I don't know if it keeps food any fresher (some people swear it does, but I live near a supermarket, so shop frequently for fresh produce), but to answer the aesthetic question, only you can answer that. For me, it was worth every penny to have a paneled built-in fridge. I'm attaching two pictures - the top one is the fridge in my previous home. For that one, which was full-size, we surrounded it with cabinetry to give it more of a finished look, and we were very happy with that look. But in our current place, the living room, dining room and kitchen are all one big room, so while I don't mind that you know it's a fridge (there are ways to do it so it's invisible), paneling was important to me. The bottom picture is my current fridge, built-in and paneled (before the kitchen was completed). "Regular" counter-depth fridges (not the Miele, Subzero, Thermador and Liebherr category) can't be paneled, and are also more than counter-depth by 4-5", so they'll never look truly built-in....See MoreSubzero 48 inch built-in vs. Miele Fridge/Freezer - Please help!!!
Comments (8)Yes we are putting them side by side and probably don’t want the panels. Yes we are getting 2 dishwashers. I really like the Miele with 3D cutlery tray at the top. I suppose we could still get 1 Miele dishwasher with the Thermador package but if we were to go with a 30 inch Thermador fridge and 24 inch Thermador freezer with external dispenser, with stainless panels and professional handles, would be about $5k more than the SubZero 48 inch builtin fridge for us. And Thermador like Subzero does not have printshield finish. And new Thermador freezer with external dispenser has no shelves on the door so less storage. So even though we really considered Thermador for everything, switched to Miele or SubZero/Wolf because we also want a combisteam oven which apparently are better by Miele and Wolf. Anyways, think I am leaning to Subzero fridge/freezer but worried will be sorry not just getting everything Miele. Miele’s prices just went up today too even though also started back up 10 percent off deal. Miele just seems like excellent quality and ease of use, even though probably more drawn to professional look of Subzero/Wolf. So confused!!!!!...See Morefriedajune
