Is this light too big for my space?
Comments (3)Hi odyssey3, This indeed has many lights !!! but that doesn't mean it can't work in fact it may be quite exciting. On a dimmer and on at 1/3 the light cast would be very warm and well distributed. I think the reason this could work for you but not for many is because you have a high ceiling. 30x29 is large but it's all relative. If this is a good distance from the closest wall I think it would be very dramatic ! Lighting in general is one of the more interesting ways to personalize your home. Go for what you like !! jd...See MoreI think my island is too big
Comments (12)I think I would look for a way to make the island smaller too. You have such a large kitchen--but I do think that your aisles are tight. If you are an empty nester I think it would be fine...but if you have kids/ family I know I would want some more space. Here are some guidelines I found.... the width of a walkway should be at least 36" and the width of a work aisle should be at least 42" for one cook and at least 48" for multiple cooks. ...about amount of clearance needed to allow someone to walk behind the stools (i.e., b/w counter edge & wall or other other obstruction behind the seating area)? .....32" if no traffic passes behind a seated diner .....36" to allow traffic to edge past seated diner .....44" to allow traffic to walk past seated diner and if you have something other than wall back there I think they recommend 55-60" but I couldn't find it....See MoreWill My Kitchen Island Be Too Big?
Comments (41)My overhang ended up being less than my original plan. It’s 13 1/2” on the long side and 8” on the short. My first island top was marble with 15” and 12” overhangs but the fabricator was not able to repair his mistakes so long story short, my DH and I ended up DIYing our walnut top. That was the max size I could get without a custom up charge. It’s worked out fine for us. I installed a 12” wide cabinet on each short side which contributes to the island depth but reduces the overhang. These cabs are assessable from the sides so I do not have to move stools to access them. I did not want to give up that storage for 1 1/2” more overhang. I never give it a thought and we are completely comfortable sitting at the island which is our preferred spot. The short side is used as overflow or a perch spot during parties. I’m 5’8” and hubs is 6’ and we have no issues with it. My stools are comfy and the island is the only comfortable place I can sit in the house with my bad back. I am actually glad it turned out as it did since my entire kitchen, living and dining is only 24 x 24. My island is s comfortable size for all our needs My pullouts under the sink are each 18” wide. The left one is short to allow for the disposal. All plumbing is tight to the back left and my drain is offset left. Try to squeeze in a pantry so your dry goods can be together. It doesn’t look like you’ll have much storage for food. Maybe the steam oven can b incorporated into a pantry cab. I have an 18” pantry pullout that I love. Thank you! I really like my glass uppers. And in spite of what many claim they are extremely easy to keep clean and do not collect grease. It keeps my kitchen light and bright. I love my Ikea kitchen. It works so well for me. Post your plan when you have one!...See MoreIs this mirror too big for my space?
Comments (2)I have had the same mirror over my bed for over 10 years. I still love it. Mine is a king sized bed, so I think the mirror may look smaller in proportion than yours, but yours looks beautiful as well....See Morealeita_1
