Is this light too big for my space?

Hi everyone,

I have fallen in love with a Wilshire chandelier. After I ordered it, I was told it was discontinued. I have made around 60 phone calls trying to find one anywhere in stock, with no luck. I have, however, found the next size up. This is the larger chandelier:

It is 30" across and 29" wide. I want this over my kitchen table. The table is oblong and measures 50" X 67". The ceiling is 11'8" high, and the room is very open, roughly corresponding to 11'8" X 10'2" The walls are solid on only two sides. Can I get this chandelier I love, or will the available bigger size just overpower my space? It is a pricey piece, so I'd hate to goof here. I don't think I could use any chain to hang this.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like it's apt to dominate the room. I don't think I've ever seen a fixture anywhere near that large in a 10' x 12' room.

Besides, with its 12 (!!) 60 watt bulbs, it produces 720 watts of heat. That's be about all the heat you'd need in that room in the winter. You might not want to turn it on in the summer.

To say nothing of how incredibly bright it would make that small room ...

Sigh. I was afraid someone would drag me back to reality. Thanks for doing it. I am heartbroken about not getting this light, though. If I like something, it's sure to be discontinued!

Anyone seen anything similar to this light?

Yes I've addressed it, but you still have the canopy to deal with so really, very detailed measurements are important! The issue with a hardware ring is that they often don't match, ruining the look (don't ask how I know). One thing I love about your chandie is that it's actually quite light looking (ok pun LOL) but it's a high impact, all at the same time. I don't know if you've seen my dining room chandelier. Big, chunky and heavy all at once! (There is a chicken in the middle). It works because I really was precise with the measurements of the thing. I was tight (12.25 inches width difference) but after I let go of the links, and allowed an artist to paint the replacement hook...I was ok, but it wasn't cheap to get to that point! So I'm just saying...measure twice :) Our chandy hangs just at the 30" off the table decorator requirement, and it's perfect...any more, just an inch, would have impacted use of the space. I hope it fits...it's a gorgeous piece.

I need help again please. I'm really pleased with my bedroom after 5 years of being in limbo till (fill in the blank). I don't know what I should put (if anything) on top of the armoire. The picture sitting on top right now will be hung. The armoire is 5' tall. You can see pictures of it and the rest of the room above. The lamp I finally chose is the one in the first picture of lamp decisions. It's on he bottom right corner. Or maybe I should forget putting anything there and let whatever I put on the wall (between the armoire and the bed be enough. I'm open for suggestions for both! Thanks, Monica

Yes the ceiling in the kitchen is regular stomped white - lovely;) We are getting bids on having it scraped and redone, but there is no good stopping point so it is a lot of ceiling. I hadn't considered my ceiling in there, but all my trim and my cabinets are white as well? The ceiling in the great room will be painted. I had originally wanted a nice white, but decided it was too stark? That's why I was leaning towards buttercream, much lighter than I had with some warmth and looked good with my floors. However, the trim and cabinets are definitely staying too. Thanks for your thoughts - I don't have an eye to think about all these things until it's too late.

This indeed has many lights !!!

but that doesn't mean it can't work in fact it may be quite exciting.

On a dimmer and on at 1/3 the light cast would be very warm and well distributed. I think the reason this could work for you but not for many is because you have a high ceiling.

30x29 is large but it's all relative. If this is a good distance from the closest wall I think it would be very dramatic !

Lighting in general is one of the more interesting ways to personalize your home. Go for what you like !!
