Gosh! I guess I'll have to give Hortico one more shot to prove themselves, because if it weren't for Sheila and Diane championing them, I would NEVER order from them a second time, and I would recommend others to use high caution. Why? The quality of the plants I received was subpar. They were moldy, covered in brown slime. Easily the worst roses (or plants, period) that I have ever received via mail order. My "Crimson Glory" wasn't even #2 Grade so they sent me two. One had BORER damage received from them. One of them died. Even worse? It's not Crimson Glory at all! It's a very slightly scented rich flag red that doesn't blue as it ages and the petals don't even have the dignity to fall off when they started browning. I've reached out to them, sent the requested pictures, and I haven't heard back. That was months ago. I obviously need to reach back out, because they haven't gotten back with me, Of course, if what I received was what others would dare call "good quality" plants, I could never take their opinion very seriously. Yes, the plants ultimately survived the first season to at least grow, but that does not a quality plant make. Steven

Obviously Hortico isn't interested in maintaining the paperwork framework necessary to export roses here. Just as obviously it is possible for a business to do that if it wants to. I don't for sure whether you would be able to do that yourself or not. This website might help a little. US Customs may care about the patent if there is one, but I doubt it, not for personal use. There might be a duty to pay, but that's not going to be a major concern either for a few roses. The quarantine issues are likely to be the biggest hangup. If you're willing and you do it the right way, they can sometimes be navigated, especially with a Canadian product. It will probably have to arrive at the border bare root. The USDA takes an extremely restrictive approach to bringing in soil from outside the country, even potting soil. It may have to be examined at an inspection station. I'm not certain about that. If so you would probably have to arrange for it to travel to someplace like Seattle, or JFK. That's more likely to happen with a European rose than it is with a Canadian one. I don't know for sure what would happen with a Canadian rose. An extension agent might be able to point you in the right direction, perhaps. There also may be rules from the Ag. Canada side, but I don't know what they would be, or even if there are any.

Brian, I ordered 2 PJ's from Orions this past spring. They sent me 2 that were potted and growing; they had pulled the soil from them and packed them very well for shipment. The PJs were large roses, already had buds formed, and were very healthy and strong rose bushes. Mrs. Johnson, the owner, also said they had bareroots available. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them at all; very nice folks and great, healthy plants. The PJs are awesome.....!!! I'm so glad I found Orion Farms and didn't get tiny little bands. I believe they also have a good selection of other roses available. -terry

Two years ago, I had placed an order in November for spring delivery, availability was confirmed and I was told theyâÂÂd attempt to source out roses not in stock, the Hortico gals were friendly and helpful, or at least I had thought. My deposit was taken and I then awaited upon the arrival of the spring shipment ... but, it didn't come! I emailed and asked as to when I could expect the parcel and was told âÂÂwell, didnâÂÂt you receive our recent email saying that NONE of your roses were available?â ... I had received no such email! ... talk about being so very peeved off and disappointed with Hortico! Prior to that, my last order had been extremely variable, some rather decent plants, others smallish and one that had left me shaking my head, it had literally been ripped in half, this likely occurring upon being dug. Will I ever again order from Hortico, honestly I donâÂÂt know, as I have received some varieties unavailable elsewhere ... though, I'm unsure if it's worth the frustration of dealing with them? Terry
