cotton velvet sofas - pictures of your older ones?
Comments (22)I'm too lazy to redo it (I make beautiful big squares and rectangles...ie drapes and quilts LOL) and never attempt anything with curves heh heh Actually I really like the worn finish. Our walls have a bit of a soft rose copper (not pink or red really, but copper leaning towards rose verses orange if that makes sense). So the worn rose, which appears on camera more pink that it really is, looks great against them. There's a lot of the underlayment coming through (a taupy tan color) which softens the rose just enough to really work. I actually have two of these settes (they were on sale really cheap so we took them both). I plan on sending one down to the PT house for a bedroom as well. I forgot I was supposed to take pics and share the cat hair LOL (They're actually doing really well in that aspect). I'll have to see if the contractor is out of there so I can take them. I've had a crazy busy day with painters, window coverings and finally, finally...DOOR KNOBS!!!! All being done today. Door knobs..can you imagine the luxury? We've been without for three years LOL (Yes even on the bathrooms). I may just open and close doors all night...cuz I can heh heh...See MoreIt's Labor Day weekend! What are your projects?
Comments (59)Happy Birthday Greenthumb! Trailrunner, good thoughts for you being sent your way. Segbrown, hmmm, your home looks a little like mine. Okay, I have read (skimmed) through all of these and I am going back to bed!!! I am exhausted just reading about all of the plans!!! I started my weekend with some plein aire painting with a friend. Oh gosh, after this summer, it was pure heaven to sit outside. Saturday was lots of baseball, football on tv. Sunday afternoon, bought steaks and ribs to cook on grill - well, hubby will get to do that and no company so some will be tossed in freezer. Today, if I don't go back to bed, will put away some glassware (bowls, etc) that I have had sitting in my studio to paint. Uhm, not paint on the glassware, but to paint their image on canvas. Even talking of painting relaxes me so maybe I will go dry my hair and head to the studio! Best wishes to all....See MoreAt my wit's end over dog hair on the sofa
Comments (18)I love my microfiber sofa because the hair literally falls off. Pup owns the ottoman so when I see hair on it all I have to do is smack it and the hair flys up and away. They I vac it up. Or if I see it when using vac it sucks right up. You might be able to get a swatch of microfiber fabric and make your own cover to fit that side of sofa. I had a hurculon (sp?) sofa that I loved. But it loved to trap my german sheps hair. The only, and I mean only, way to get the hair out was to take a damp washcloth, barely moisten my hand, then use hand to wipe the hair off fabric. I got really used to doing this and it works really well. Pain in the arse but it does pull the hair out. My new sofas are microfiber again for both the hair removal and also my cat will not shred it to pieces. I will second the mention of grooming. It really does help a lot. Even if only done once a week....See MoreHow to get pet hair off in the wash?
Comments (17)We have a black lab/beagle mix dog and two Siamese cats. This probably goes without saying but the easiest way to remove pet fur from laundry is to limit how much goes in to begin with. No, I'm not advocating pet beds and never cuddling your pets -- I'd never suggest a rule I could never adhere to :) However: 1. Grooming does make a difference. I'm not great about it, but even once every other week or so with our short-hair breeds keeps the fur at bay. 2. Regular vacuuming. Much of the fur that winds up on bedding and clothing comes from the floor and furniture, as its carried on your feet and body. 3. Remove excess fur before laundering. Brush or tape-roll bedding to pick up the top-most layers of fur. Same for clothing or pet bedding. If the first layers are gone, the smaller pieces stuck between textile fibers have a better chance of working their way out, into the water, and down the drain. 4. Diet/hydration. Okay, feline nutrition is sore subject with me and apologies in advance if any of this comes off as abrasive. Dried kibble is one of the worst things you can feed a cat. Some vets will go so far as to say that the cheapest canned food is better than the most expensive kibble. The reason for this is that cats do not naturally feel thirst and seek out water, because their instinct is to get moisture/hydration from fresh kills. House cats have been domesticated for only a fraction of time as dogs (hence their behavior) and have not evolved to seek water from bowls. The result is a chronically dehydrated kitty and, in addition to the obvious kidney problems, what does this cause? You guessed it, excess shedding! We feed an entirely raw diet (rabbit, mice, chicks, etc.) and have almost no shedding. That said, raw is a huge commitment and I understand not everyone will do it. I encourage anyone with cats to read the most excellent research done, entirely pro-bono, by Dr. Lisa Pierson after her struggles keeping her own cats healthy. Her research, include food reviews is here: CatInfo - Dr. Pierson Meow :)...See MoreUser
