I am laying Click right now in my kitchen and foyer. The recommendation for that is to run the seams parallel with the way light enters the room. I chose not to do it because it is was infinitely easier to lay it the other way and I do see why. I can't see the seams that run parallel to the light but I can see the ones that run the same way as the windows. Not sure if sheet seams would be the same but the info on which way to lay the Click was on the Marmoleum website.

Take a look at this older thread that addresses your question. I would be inclined to do a pattern like herringbone like that first pic (my inspiration for my MBath too!), or put them on the diagonal like elphaba did. You can find her reno in "Bathrooms", here. Also, think about the grout. Do you want it to be light so that it looks like a tile floor or blend in so that it looks more like wood? I put it in my living room and hall and chose the darkest grout they had for more of a wood floor look. Here is a link that might be useful: Wood-look tile thread

Chisue: Thanks for your comments. I am not sure about the lengths that prefinsihed comes in. I need to work that out. Good point if we lay the hardwood across the hall (rather than the length of the hall) it will lnot look chopped up at the bedroom door, closets and living room as that direction would just continue in to these rooms. The other door ways (laundry and bath off the hall) switches to tile. Yes diagonal is more modern. Probably why DH likes it better than I do, as I prefer a more transitional than he does. Amberm: Hope you are enjoying your Ontario visit. I would love to see a photo of your hardwood transitions when you get back to AB (Calgary right?). Thanks for the guidance on joist strucuture if we have plywood (vs the subfloorless days of yore). Our old subfloor is only unlevel in a few points (a few sags). A 1/4 inch would make it taller than the new subfloor. It seems the framers lowered the new floor so it would be on the same plane as the old subfloor. It may be that DH can use 1/8 inch plywood in a few low points instead of the messy leveling compound. Thanks for that suggestion. Some more perspective.. The foyer is 12' x 13' with about 5x5 carved out for a half bath.. So beyond that picture it widens out to 13 feet.. We will have storage cabinets and cubbies to fill some of that width.. The floor is 3/4" t&g with hardie 500 cement board thinset and screwed down. The joists in the whole house run perpendicular to the hardwood floor..
