Take a look at this older thread that addresses your question. I would be inclined to do a pattern like herringbone like that first pic (my inspiration for my MBath too!), or put them on the diagonal like elphaba did. You can find her reno in "Bathrooms", here. Also, think about the grout. Do you want it to be light so that it looks like a tile floor or blend in so that it looks more like wood? I put it in my living room and hall and chose the darkest grout they had for more of a wood floor look. Here is a link that might be useful: Wood-look tile thread

Hi Rhome, how are you? We seem to be trucking along on the DIY route, and seems like *something* comes up on a daily basis to stop us in our tracks. I ordered cabinets back in August, my step-father got sick and was in hospital from late August until he died in October. Cabinets were delivered on October 10th, and they are sitting, well, it's a mess...:) You are in line with DH in your leaning. My whole reasoning is rather silly, I'm very OCD, and coming in from the back door to tiles going the opposite direction bug me. I want to come in to straight lines. Isn't that ridiculous? DH insists they should run same way as the wood. He laid several in front of the new pantry for measuring the door height and trim, and I kept walking in to the pantry and would move them to be going straight! If it's really the right way to lay them, I'll get along, at least they will be straight to me when walking from the bedroom into the kitchen in the morning. :)

Ditto. just checking - that narrow strip is the only entry to an otherwise completely closed off room, right? What is the walkway contiguous with?

"Patterns should run the same direction in adjoining, visible rooms, otherwise it will look like a bad job" Respectfully disagree - I've seen this done many times in very nice homes.and it can look very nice. Most people here on HOUZZ will adamantly insist on one flooring in the home - for "continuity" and "flow". For others, including myself, there is a preference for specific flooring in certain rooms. I always prefer to see flooring run the length of the room, regardless of different flooring in an adjoining room - especially if it's an entry way. Does the family room run longer, left to right, in that picture? If so, I would run the lvt left to right. Given that you have a color change in the material, it makes even more sense to me, to change the direction of the floor. One caveat though - wood-look tile next to wood look LVT or actual wood itself is usually not a good idea. I can't really tell by the pics if that entryway tile is a "wood look" or just a patterned tile.
