Help, please. Where to put fireplace (and TV) in new build
Comments (6)Definitely a corner FP. Most houseplans have them in the middle of a wall and it will restrict you in furniture and TV placement. Unless it's a short wall with built-in's on either side. A corner FP will free up all the walls for furniture, TV and windows. I love our FP in the corner. We have a TV on one wall along with a window, and the other wall has plenty of wall space along with two large windows. This way we can enjoy the view (we're in the country), TV and FP at the same time....See MoreWhat would you put over this TV?
Comments (18)I would take out the vase and bookcase. Until you can build the bookcases, I would get two small chests with drawers.....maybe night stands.....of approximately the same height as your TV stand. If you can't match the wood of your console, paint the chests black or a darkish color. Put them on either side of your TV console. Then I would get two longish mirrors, 2 longish art work or 2 longish wrought iron pieces to put over the small chests. Nothing over the TV....See MoreShow me your built-ins! What do you put in them?
Comments (38)mydogDaisy - LOVE those built ins! They are just beautiful! Yes, I too would be paralyzed with the thought of decorating that whole thing. I assume you are thinking artwork or mirror over mantel. I like that you did the TV to the side. That is ideal - our TV is above and only because we have a low ceiling is it not too high - but many folks with a high ceiling and a tall mantel put the TV up and it's just not comfortable to watch at that angle. What type of fireplace is that? A gas insert? If so, what brand? I have posted many questions on the "fireplace" board but no one has responded. I'm considering it for my own to avoid the soot and smoke damage to my white built ins. Have you used it yet?...See MoreTV Stand with Built in Fireplace?
Comments (5)I had one almost exact to the first picture. The flame was cute and pretty realistic, but the motor to drive the flames scene had an annoying hum. I used mine mostly during the holidays for a little fun ambience in guest room or my room. Who doesn't love to fall asleep to the flickering flames-- as long as they don't hum. They do not put off that much heat, but will take the chill off a small room. Remember anything that heats, uses quite a bit of electricity so you don't want that running all day. Depending on how much you are "redoing", how long you are staying there and how many months of real cold you get, you could look into other options that would be more cost effective in the long run. Insulation, in floor heat, mini split?...See Morejust_terrilynn
