I can see a wall of built-in bookshelves. How high is that wall?

This was the mirror I originally put over the TV - 3 of them together spanned past the length of the console by about 4" each side.

This is something else I am considering. The picture doesn't do it any justice. It's as long as the console table, but only 12" in height - wouldn't take up much space. I also think I'd need to change out my vase or something with color so it didn't look so bland. This is an iron piece with real wood pieces attached.

The wall is 9' high x 10' wide. I have about 32" on each side from console to wall. We want to eventually do built in bookshelves, but not at this time - probably in a couple of years. The kitchen is our first priority. I would love the bookshelves as we need that storage like that badly!

Can you mount the tv on the wall and then hang photographs, B/W prints, etc. around it to make it part of the design? I saw that somewhere before-here probably and it looked wonderful. The tv was less a feature and more a decorative element with the things around it. Maybe someone here with a better memory than mine (which is a sieve) can find the picture for you. That wall would be perfect for it.

You can do a lot with that wall. I have a similar one that I've been struggling with:

I considered adding wallpaper or stencil. You could paint it an accent color that is a bit darker and will blend with the tv a little more. I think I will end up doing a tv gallery wall, once I aquire art work! But really you can use anything as wall décor- clocks, baskets, vintage signs, architectural salvage. I like the piece you are considering, but it isn't long enough. It is going to look like an eyebrow over the TV. You need something that spans 7-8 feet.

You could go very rustic and antique mount canoe paddles or another item that is long. An old shutter turned on its side, maybe.

I would put in the Ikea Expedit's for now if you can swing that. We just put them around our TV and I think it was about $300.

How deep is the space?

Consider hanging a large flat-bottomed woven wicker or rattan basket or tray on the wall above the TV -- try to find one similar in color or tone to the large one that now sits to the left of the TV stand .... it will add visual texture to the whole arrangement BUT still match in color to the rest of the accessories .....

I actually think it looks fine the way it is. I like that it's kind of tucked out of the way, even a bit dark, and not really a focal point, but also looks nice. I don't think I'd add anything to draw attention to the area until you can do the bookcases, which will look great, I think.

I would take out the vase and bookcase. Until you can build the bookcases, I would get two small chests with drawers.....maybe night stands.....of approximately the same height as your TV stand. If you can't match the wood of your console, paint the chests black or a darkish color. Put them on either side of your TV console. Then I would get two longish mirrors, 2 longish art work or 2 longish wrought iron pieces to put over the small chests. Nothing over the TV.

What about adding sime floating shelves along with the mirrors? Incorporate. The TV as part of the instsllment.

Im kind of confused as to why the TV is there but all the furniture faces away. Do you use that TV regularly? If not, then Id definitely make it part of the wall decor.

That's a nice room. I'd do bookcases too but hire a local carpenter to put them in when he installs the kitchen cabinets--if I could stand to wait that long. With materials, tools, carpenter already on site, it'd be a relatively small job. I'd design them myself (I did ours here) so I wasn't paying him to fuss over shelf heights and so on.

What about taking out the bookshelf on the left and having two rattan urnes w/filler (as shown) on either side. Then add a shelf above going the length of the console - actually a little longer, or would that look silly?

No, it would not look silly.....What would it look like it you took out the bookshelf, moved the TV and stand over toward where the bookshelf was?....would be off center but if you put your urn w/filler in the center of the space and hung art or mirror above the filler, I think it would look nice. Nothing above the TV. You are thinking of a shelf above the TV.....be careful it doesn't look "cluttered".

I was wondering about the placement of the TV too. The furniture is facing away from it.

If you just want to light up the area I'd get a couple of wall sconces along with a rectangular piece of art for above the TV.
