Kind of shoes to wear in garden?
Comments (40)I wear hand-me-down adidas sport sandals, the kind your kids wear after playing soccer. They are about an inch thick rubber with a wide strap across. They are easy to kick off and dry fast whenever I get them wet. I can also take them off and use them as knee pads when checking a plant. Flip flops rub sores on my feet whenever they get wet. So I use them to go into the house, to avoid tracking dirt from my dirty feet. I use a brush to clean my toes and my heels. I always wear a hat ever since my hair dresser got on to me about my dry ends. She said that the older you get the less oil in your hair and the sun can really dry it out. So my big big big stupid hat is by the door to remind me to take care of my hair and my face....See MoreWhat do you wear with peeptoe shoes?
Comments (24)Oldgardener, I have worn closed toed shoes for years, and I found these at a great clearance price so I went for them. I would love to wear them to work which is why I asked. Amyfiddler, Like I said in the original post, we ARE allowed to wear peep toes, but they have to be worn with nylons or tights. Trust me, some of the rules are pretty contradictory, but I didn't write them so I just have to follow them! AmyGibby, why would I post the question if I didn't want some feedback? And I DID try the dancers tights and they work just fine....See MoreSummertime again
Comments (26)Stockergal, I used to think I couldn't tell the difference after it hits 100 degrees, but I have to say that in 2011 once we were hitting about 108-110 I could tell the difference pretty well, and on the days we were out fighting fires and the thermometer said 115 or 116, it was a whole different kind of heat----and that was away from the actual fire itself since we don't set up food and drinks too close to the active fire line. If we never hit a temperature of 115 degrees here ever again, that's okay with me. Amy, For me it was the summer of 1980, which was the hottest summer ever in Ft. Worth until 2011 rolled around. I had a little AMC hornet with no AC and I don't know how I survived the summer driving to work in it at 1 pm every afternoon. I had to wear street clothes while driving to work and then change into my work clothes after I got to work, or I would have been too hot and sweaty and my work clothes likely would have been dripping wet. I haven't had a vehicle with no AC since then. Stockergal, I love containers. At least with them your plants have a chance of thriving in the heat as long as you water regularly. I have a row of them along my garden fence line on the east side of the garden and another row of them along the eastern fence line of the dog yard. It helps shade the dog yard in the mornings because I grow a lot of tall plants in them. I agree it is too hot to weed at 7 am, which means it is too hot right now to weed period. This is how I lose control of the garden in July or August, but eventually I reclaim it once the temperatures start dropping a little. Dawn...See MoreFor those who don't wear shoes in the house.
Comments (63)I never go barefoot in the house, ever. First thing in the morning my feet go into the shoes by the bed and they don't come off until I'm ready to go to bed at night. If I were to go barefoot I'd have a backache within a minute! Around the house I wear Alegria slides, which have around 2" heels. I have a lot of pairs, as I love Alegrias! The wedge heel is very comfortable and the footbed conforms perfectly to my feet. If I go out I wear either dressier Alegrias or my pink and gold sneakers or a pair of plain-ish pumps. I'm fairly particular about what goes on my feet - my grandfather owned a shoe store and also made and repaired shoes, and my mother was adamant about wearing shoes that fit well and looked good. People who visit can do whatever they wish concerning what's on their feet. Barefoot or stilettos or workboots - whatever makes you happy! Sable...See Morel pinkmountain
