Back splash to go with persa pearl granite and grey cabinet
Comments (4)I can appreciate your love of marble, and your desire to use it as a backsplash. However, that slab of granite is so stunning and active, that a veiny backsplash competes, rather that compliments. I would think a more uniform backsplash in the beigey/cream family, would tie in, yet let the Persa Pearl be the star....See MoreNeed help choosing granite counter top and back splash
Comments (3)If you have trouble visualizing what you'd like but "know it when you see it", then at this stage you should probably just look at as many stainless / dark cherry kitchens as you can and see which countertops and flooring "grab" you. In my case I knew I wanted simple, natural cherry cabinets and stainless appliances and probably a wood floor, but that was it. Looking at lots of pictures helped me narrow things down, so now I can at least have intelligent conversations with kitchen designers. I'd suggest going over to houzz.com and entering "stainless steel dark cherry kitchen" into their search box and looking through some of the hundreds of results you get. It's a great source of ideas. After you see some you like, you can probably come up with more words to add to the search box to narrow things down. You can also go to google and enter "site:gardenweb.com dark cherry stainless" and you'll find lots of threads on this site too. I don't know of a way to limit it to threads with photos, unfortunately. Laura...See MoreHelp with back splash fo granite I don't like
Comments (20)How accurate are those photos for actual color? Would it serve better to draw out that squash gold or the gray? (Personally, I think there's more than enough of the pinky yellow.) Or introduce an accent that matches the wood? What feeling does the owner prefer: warm colors? cool colors? Are there other colors or patterns in the room that need to be considered? Formal or informal? Budget? DIY or pro install? Access to vendors? Personal preferences for materials? Has she taken the Sweeby test? Definitely avoid small mosaic glass tiles unless they're a trim band no more than 3 inches tall and positioned at least 10 inches above the counter and are a good match with the countertop. srg215's monocolor solution has a lot of wisdom to it, and the tile size is big enough to provide a larger, regular counterpoint (pun intended) to the countertop's irregular pattern. It defuses it, although his/her granite has fewer color tones than this one. Definitely recommend living with this for a while and perhaps trying out some colors and textures via paint, fabrics, kitchen objects, maybe wallpaper or stencil. Tile backsplashes are generally expensive enough and permanent enough to set this owner up with a second reason for dissatisfaction if she rushes into things....See MoreDesperately Seeking Suggestions for a back splash
Comments (17)I'm the party pooper, I guess. I suggest you do not pick the tile for the back splash until the cabinets and counters are in. You will not believe the difference it makes. When the counter is horizontal and bigger, it will look much more different than that little sample. The lighting in your space is different than out in the tile shops. Also the cabinets when installed will give your space a different look. There is nothing lost by waiting. There have been several GW members who made their decision based on a door and granite sample only to be disappointed later. In our future house, I plan on just painting that drywall area and then deciding. I know I probably will want to go with the arabesques again, but I really want to see it before making that decision. But, while you are out there looking, check out the Mandala Tiles, especially their Sinu collection. The tile is subtle but really does have some depth to it without stealing the show. I know srg215 used it in her kitchen in the color: Stingray. Gorgeous. Good Luck!...See Morerebeccamomof123
